Bihar STET 2026 Last Date Extended to 15 September: New Dates, Fee, Pattern and the TRE 4.0 Link
If you were refreshing stetregistration.cbrt.co.in at 2 a.m. last night because your B.Ed marksheet had not arrived, you can breathe. The Bihar School Examination Board has pushed the last date for the Secondary Teacher Eligibility Test 2026 from 31 August 2026 to 15 September 2026. That is a clean 15 extra days, and it lands exactly when BPSC TRE 4.0 applications open.
BSEB Chairman Dr. Tyagarajan S.M. confirmed the extension, saying the final date for online form submission and fee payment has been moved. The trigger was mundane and very real: thousands of candidates, a large share of them B.Ed graduates from BRA Bihar University, were still waiting on marksheets and certificates their university had not issued. Without those documents, the form could not be completed.
What exactly changed on 29 August
Only the application window moved. The advertisement, the eligibility bar, the fee slabs and the exam pattern all stay as they were in Advt No. P.R. 183/2026, released on 14 August 2026.

One honest caveat before you plan around this. The extension was announced through the Board and carried by Bihar dailies quoting the chairman directly. Four groups, and it is worth knowing which one you fall into because your next step differs.
- 2026-batch B.Ed candidates whose universities have not released final marksheets. This extension was built for you. Chase the provisional certificate or the university-issued marksheet this week, not in the second week of September.
- Candidates stuck on documents such as caste certificate, EWS certificate, residence proof or a corrected Aadhaar name. Bihar RTPS applications take time, so start today.
- Fee-payment failures. If your money was debited but the form still shows unpaid, you now have a real window to raise it with the portal helpdesk instead of losing the cycle.
- People who were on the fence about paying for both papers. You have time to decide properly, and the maths on that decision is below.
Eligibility: what the notification asks for
Paper 1 (Secondary, Classes 9-10)
Graduation with at least 50% marks in the relevant subject or subject group from a recognised university, plus B.Ed. Category relaxations apply as per NCTE norms, which generally bring the requirement down by 5% for reserved categories.
Paper 2 (Higher Secondary, Classes 11-12)
Post-graduation with at least 50% marks in the relevant subject, plus B.Ed. Same relaxation logic applies.

Exam pattern: 150 questions, no negative marking
Both papers carry the same structure. Duration is 2 hours 30 minutes, which works out to almost exactly one minute per question with 30 minutes of slack. There is no negative marking, so leaving a bubble blank earns you nothing and costs you nothing. Attempt all 150.
A note on mode. Some sources list STET 2026 as a computer-based test, others describe an offline pen-and-paper format. BSEB has run STET as a CBT in recent cycles, but the mode line in your own admit card is the only version that matters. Check it there.
Subjects on offer
Paper 1 covers roughly 16 subjects: Hindi, Urdu, Bangla, Maithili, Sanskrit, Arabic, Farsi, Bhojpuri, English, Mathematics, Science, Social Science, Physical Education, Music, Fine Arts and Dance.
Paper 2 opens up much wider, to around 29 subjects, adding streams such as Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Mathematics, History, Geography, Political Science, Economics, Psychology, Sociology, Philosophy, Commerce, Computer Science and the vocational subjects. The exact subject-to-eligibility mapping sits in the notification annexure, and it is the single most common place people file a wrong form.
Application fee
Look at that second column carefully. Paper 2 costs an extra ₹480 for a general candidate, not another ₹960. If you hold a post-graduate degree with 50% and a B.Ed, sitting only Paper 1 is leaving a qualification on the table for less than the price of a coaching test series.
Qualifying marks by category
STET is a qualifying exam, not a ranking exam. Clearing it gets you a certificate, not a posting. The posting comes through BPSC TRE, and that is where the number you score stops mattering and the number you score in TRE starts mattering.
Why this extension matters for BPSC TRE 4.0
Here is the part most Bihar candidates missed in the noise. BPSC TRE 4.0 opened with 32,388 school teacher posts, and its own application window runs through September. For the Class 9-10 and Class 11-12 posts in that recruitment, a valid STET certificate is the gate. No STET, no eligibility for those levels.
So the two windows now overlap. A candidate who was going to miss STET 2026 by a week would have been locked out of the senior-level TRE posts for the entire cycle. How to apply before 15 September
- Open stetregistration.cbrt.co.in and register with an active mobile number and email. Both get used for the admit card.
- Fill personal details exactly as they appear on your Class 10 certificate. Name mismatches are the top rejection reason in Bihar teaching exams.
- Choose Paper 1, Paper 2, or both, and pick your subject from the dropdown after checking the annexure mapping.
- Upload the photograph and signature in the specified size. Scanned selfies get rejected.
- Pay online. Save the transaction ID separately, not just the PDF.
- Download the final submitted form and take two printouts. Keep one with your document file.
Do not wait for 14 September. Bihar exam portals slow down badly on the final two days, and a failed payment on the last evening is not something the Board reopens for individuals.
How to use these 15 days if your form is already submitted
You just got a free fortnight of preparation while the exam date stays unannounced. Spend it on the 50-mark pedagogy block, because that is where the easy marks sit and where most subject-expert candidates lose the paper.
- Days 1-5: Child development, learning theories, and the NEP 2020 plus NCF-SE 2023 framing that BSEB has been leaning on.
- Days 6-10: Subject revision at the graduation or post-graduation level, working from your own university syllabus rather than a guidebook index.
- Days 11-15: Full 150-question timed sets. Two per week is enough at this stage, with a proper error log after each.
