BPSC TRE 4.0 Apply Online Postponed: New Date Likely 21 September 2026, Revised Advertisement Coming
Lakhs of Bihar teacher aspirants opened bpsconline.bihar.gov.in on the morning of 1 September expecting a form. They got a postponement notice instead. BPSC pulled the TRE 4.0 online application on 31 August, a Monday, and the notice from the Controller of Examinations gave one reason and no detail: procedural changes.
A day later the picture cleared a little. The Commission has indicated the application window will now open on 21 September 2026, and that it will come with a revised advertisement rather than the original Advt 14/2026 as published. That is a 20-day slip, and it is not an empty 20 days. Here is what actually changed, what is still unsettled, and how to use the extra time.
The three-day timeline that reset this recruitment
What the Commission actually wrote
The wording of the follow-up letter matters more than the headlines, because it is deliberately soft. In Hindi it reads: "संशोधित विज्ञापन एवं ऑनलाइन आवेदन में आवश्यक संशोधनोपरान्त विद्यालय अध्यापक के पदों पर नियुक्ति हेतु आवेदन प्रक्रिया दिनांक-21.09.2026 से प्रारंभ होने की संभावना है".
Read the last three words. संभावना है means "is likely", not "will". BPSC has given itself room. Treat 21 September as a working assumption, keep the documents ready from around 18 September, and do not book travel or leave around it.
Revised schedule: what we know and what is blank
The blank rows are the honest part of this story. Every coaching portal running a "TRE 4.0 last date" headline right now is guessing. The closing date will be printed in the revised advertisement PDF and nowhere else until then.
Why the form was pulled: Gardanibagh, not paperwork
The notice says procedural changes. The politics behind it is public record. Two aspirants, Aman Yadav and Jahnavi Kumari, sat on a hunger strike at Gardanibagh in Patna from 18 August. The core objection was the two-stage Prelims-plus-Mains structure BPSC had signalled for TRE 4.0, and specifically the normalisation that a multi-shift screening test would bring with it.
Bihar aspirants have watched normalisation arguments swallow entire recruitment cycles before. The demand was blunt: one exam, one result.
On 27 August the government moved. Education Department Secretary Rajiv Raushan went to the protest site with the Patna DM and SSP, and Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary announced that TRE-4 would be conducted in a single phase this year. Alongside that, the government accepted a "one candidate, one result" rule to stop a single selected candidate blocking seats across multiple teacher categories, set up an expert committee on exam reforms chaired by a sitting Patna High Court judge, and opened a student grievance portal with a 30-day resolution promise.
Once the format changed, the advertisement that described the old format had to change too. That is your procedural change.
The pattern that got scrapped, and what replaces it
Be careful with this table. The single-phase decision is on the record from the Chief Minister, but the question count, mark split and negative-marking fraction of the new single paper have not been published.
Anyone giving you an exact new pattern today is filling in blanks. Wait for the revised advertisement.
Four numbers that do not add up yet
This is the section no other TRE 4.0 page will give you, and it is the reason you should not fill anything into a spreadsheet just yet.
1. The vacancy total. Advt 14/2026 advertised 32,388 posts. On 29 August the Education Department added 111 Music posts for classes 9-10, and multiple outlets then reported the new total as 33,385.
Do the arithmetic: 32,388 + 111 = 32,499, not 33,385. There is a gap of 886 posts that no report explains. Either more subjects were added quietly, or one figure is being copied wrong from site to site. Take the level-wise table below as your base and wait for the revised PDF.
2. The exam window. A 22-27 September 2026 exam window was in circulation. An application process that opens on 21 September cannot feed an exam that starts the next day. That window is dead, and no replacement has been notified.
3. The fee. Reports currently disagree three ways: a flat ₹100 for all categories paid online, or ₹100 application plus ₹200 biometric charged per post, or the old TRE 3.0 structure of ₹750 for General and ₹200 for reserved candidates. Read the fee clause in the revised advertisement before you pay anything.
4. The age cut-off date. Some reports put the crucial date for age at 1 January 2026, others at 1 August 2026. For a candidate sitting close to the 37-year ceiling, seven months decides the whole application. Check this line personally in the PDF.
Level-wise vacancy: the base you can still plan on
These four figures sum exactly to 32,388 and are agreed across independent sources, which is why they survive as the planning base even while the headline total is disputed. The structural point has not changed: classes 9 to 12 hold 19,978 posts, almost 62% of this recruitment, and every one of them sits behind a Bihar STET certificate you already hold. If you do not have STET, your real field is roughly 12,410 posts, not 32,388.
Who gains from these 20 days
You gain a lot if your B.Ed or D.El.Ed marksheet has not arrived yet, your STET certificate download was pending, your OTR profile on the BPSC portal is incomplete, or your DigiLocker was not linked. Those were the four things that would have killed a 1 September application.
You gain a little if your documents were ready. Your gain is preparation time on a syllabus that has not moved, plus one fewer scheduling clash: the Bihar STET application window closes 15 September, so the TRE form no longer overlaps it.
You gain nothing if you were counting on filling STET now to become eligible for this TRE cycle. That is still not how it works. STET taken in 2026 makes you eligible for the next TRE, not this one.
A 20-day plan that does not waste the delay
An opinion, since you will not get one from an aggregator page: do not spend this fortnight refreshing news sites for the pattern. The subject paper is the largest scoring block under both the old design and the new one. Content is safe to study. Format is not worth guessing.

Final word
A postponement notice reads like a setback and behaves like a gift, but only for candidates who use it. Twenty days is exactly enough to finish a subject revision cycle, or to chase down a marksheet from BRA Bihar University, or to fix a name mismatch in your OTR that would otherwise have your form rejected in November.
One caution to close on. Bihar recruitment calendars slip more than once. Build your plan so that it still works if the form opens on 21 September, and still works if it opens in October. The one date you should mark firmly is 15 September, because Bihar STET applications close then, and for 62% of TRE 4.0 posts that certificate is the gate.
