CUET UG 2027: Complete Guide to Dates, Pattern, Syllabus and Preparation

CUET UG has become the single gate to undergraduate seats in most central universities, and the 2026 cycle showed how wide that gate now is. About 11.6 lakh candidates appeared between 11 May and 31 May 2026, with spillover sittings on 6 and 7 June, and NTA declared the result on 23 June 2026. If you are entering Class 12 this session, CUET UG 2027 is the exam that decides where the next three years of your life happen.

One honest caveat before anything else. As of 30 August 2026, NTA has not released the CUET UG 2027 notification or information bulletin. Every figure in this guide comes from the official CUET (UG) 2026 Information Bulletin and from how the 2026 cycle actually ran, and every 2027 date is labelled as expected. Treat this as a planning document you revise when the official notice lands, and keep the ExamAtlas CUET exam hub open for the update.

CUET UG 2027 Important Dates (Expected)

NTA has run the last two cycles on a fairly stable calendar: application in January, exam in May, result in June. The 2026 bulletin listed the application window as 3 to 30 January 2026 and the exam window as 11 to 31 May 2026, and the exam did start on 11 May, though NTA added 6 and 7 June to finish the schedule. That is the pattern the 2027 estimates below follow.

Result23 June 2026Second half of June 2027

Two of these deserve a warning. The city intimation slip is not your admit card, it only tells you the city so you can arrange travel, and NTA usually releases it about a week to ten days ahead. The admit card itself comes much closer to the date, sometimes only three or four days before your shift, so do not plan a family trip in May 2027 on the assumption that you will get long notice.

Who Can Apply: CUET UG 2027 Eligibility

NTA keeps its own eligibility bar deliberately low. The 2026 bulletin says candidates who have passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination, or who are appearing in it that year, can sit the exam. There is no NTA age limit and no cap on the number of attempts.

The real filter sits with the universities, and this is where most aspirants lose seats. Every participating university publishes its own minimum percentage, its own subject mapping and its own reservation rules. A university may demand that you have studied Mathematics in Class 12 for a BSc Statistics seat, or that you clear 50 per cent aggregate for a BA Honours course, and NTA has no say in that.

So your eligibility checklist for 2027 looks like this:

  • Class 12 passed or appearing in 2027, from a recognised board.
  • The specific Class 12 subjects your target course demands, checked on that university admission page, not on a coaching blog.
  • The minimum aggregate that the university sets for your category.
  • Valid category and PwD certificates in the format the bulletin specifies, ready before the form opens.
  • An Aadhaar-linked mobile number and a working email you will still hold in June 2027.

CUET UG 2027 Exam Pattern

The pattern settled into its current shape in the 2026 cycle and there is no announcement so far of any change for 2027. The biggest single reform to remember is that the old optional-question structure is gone. Earlier a paper gave you extra questions and let you skip a few. Now all 50 questions in every paper are compulsory.

ComponentSpecification
Papers offered37 in total
Languages13 (Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu)
Domain subjects23
General Aptitude Test1 paper
Papers you may chooseUp to 5 in any combination
Questions per paper50, no optional questions
Time per paper60 minutes
Correct answerPlus 5 marks
Wrong answerMinus 1 mark
Unattempted0 marks
Question typeObjective, multiple choice

Do the arithmetic on that marking scheme, because it changes how you should guess. A correct answer is worth five times what a wrong one costs. If you can eliminate even two of the four options, the expected value of an attempt turns positive. Blind guessing across ten questions where you have no idea at all is still a losing trade, but a half-informed attempt is not.

The 60-minute limit is the other thing candidates underestimate. Fifty questions in sixty minutes gives you 72 seconds each, and domain papers like Physics or Accountancy carry calculation-heavy items that eat two minutes on their own. Speed is a scored skill here, not a bonus.

Syllabus Break-Up: What You Actually Study

CUET UG does not run a separate syllabus. Domain papers follow the NCERT Class 12 syllabus for that subject, so the book on your school desk is the primary source. That is the good news for a Class 12 student and the trap for a drop-year candidate who tries to prepare from generic entrance material.

The three parts of your paper set work differently:

  1. Language papers test reading comprehension, verbal ability, vocabulary, synonyms and antonyms, and rearrangement of sentences. Literature-heavy content is minimal. Practice, not memorisation, moves this score.
  2. Domain papers follow NCERT Class 12 chapter by chapter. History, Political Science, Economics, Business Studies, Accountancy, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Geography, Psychology, Sociology, Computer Science and the rest all draw from the prescribed board syllabus.
  3. General Aptitude Test covers quantitative reasoning at roughly Class 8 arithmetic level, logical and analytical reasoning, general knowledge and current affairs. Many Delhi University and BHU courses accept or require it, and it is the cheapest fifth paper for most candidates.

A practical note on subject choice. Five papers sound like a chance to keep every option open, but each extra paper costs money, costs a separate 60-minute sitting and dilutes revision time. Most successful candidates pick one language, three domain subjects that match their target course and General Aptitude Test. Course-wise subject mapping for the big universities is listed on the CUET exam page on ExamAtlas, and it is worth checking before you finalise the form.

CUET UG 2027 Application Fee

The 2026 bulletin priced the form by category and by number of subjects. The base covers up to three papers, and each paper after that is charged separately. Expect the 2027 structure to look similar unless NTA revises it in the bulletin.

CategoryUp to 3 subjectsEach additional subject
General (UR)Rs 1000Rs 400
OBC-NCL / EWSRs 900Rs 375
SC / ST / PwBD / Third genderRs 800Rs 350
Candidates outside IndiaRs 4500Rs 1800

A General category candidate taking the full five papers therefore paid Rs 1800 in 2026. That is not a large sum against a three-year degree, but it is a real reason to choose four well rather than five carelessly.

Selection Process: What Happens After the Score

NTA declares your normalised score. It does not admit you anywhere. That distinction confuses thousands of candidates every year, so hold on to it.

After the result, each participating university opens its own admission portal, sets its own weightage across your chosen subjects, publishes cut-offs and runs its counselling rounds. Delhi University runs CSAS, BHU and Jamia run their own systems, and the state and private universities that accept CUET scores each publish separate schedules. Missing a university registration deadline while waiting for a mythical central counselling is the most avoidable way to lose a seat.

Normalisation matters too. Because a subject is examined across multiple shifts on different days, NTA converts raw marks into normalised scores so that a harder shift does not punish the candidates who sat it. Your scorecard shows the normalised figure, and that is what universities use.

What Most CUET Guides Get Wrong

Search results for this exam are crowded with pages that repeat each other. Five things they routinely get wrong:

They still describe optional questions. A large number of pages carry the old structure where you answered 40 out of 50. That structure no longer applies. All 50 are compulsory, and a student who plans to skip the five hardest questions has planned around a rule that does not exist.

They publish a 2027 exam date as fact. No 2027 date exists yet. Any page that gives you a precise day in May 2027 is guessing, and dressing a guess as a schedule is how aspirants miss real deadlines.

They treat CUET as one exam with one cut-off. There is no single CUET cut-off. There are hundreds, one per course per university per category, and they move every year with the paper difficulty and the applicant pool.

They recommend heavy coaching material over NCERT. Domain papers are drawn from Class 12 NCERT. A candidate who finishes NCERT twice and solves past papers usually outscores one who half-finishes a thousand-page reference book.

They ignore the clock. Nearly every guide lists the syllabus and stops. The 72-seconds-per-question constraint is the part that actually separates a 200 from a 240, and it is trainable only through timed practice.

A Real Preparation Timeline for CUET UG 2027

This plan assumes you are in Class 12 during the 2026 to 2027 session, which is the situation most CUET UG 2027 candidates are in. It deliberately runs alongside board preparation instead of competing with it, because the syllabus is the same.

September to November 2026. Finish your NCERT Class 12 first reading for the domain subjects you will choose. Do not start CUET-specific practice yet. Build a one-page list of the courses and universities you are targeting and write down their subject requirements. Spend 30 minutes a day on English reading comprehension and one general knowledge round-up, because the General Aptitude Test rewards steady exposure and punishes cramming.

December 2026 to January 2027. The notification is expected here. Fill the form in the first week it opens rather than the last, keep your documents scanned in the specified size, and lock your five papers only after checking the university requirements you listed in November. Start solving chapter-wise objective questions for each domain subject as you finish that chapter in school.

February to March 2027. Board practicals and pre-boards eat this window. Protect the board preparation, since the content overlaps almost completely, and keep only two CUET habits alive: one timed 50-question set per week and a running error notebook. Attempt the correction window if any detail on your form is wrong.

April 2027. Boards end and this becomes your highest-value month. Move to full-length timed mocks, one subject paper per day, six days a week. Review every mock the same day, and let the error notebook, not your mood, decide what you revise the next morning. Watch for the city intimation slip.

May 2027. Taper. Two mocks a week, daily revision of formulae, dates, definitions and the error notebook. Download the admit card the day it appears, check every detail on it, and do one dry run to the exam centre if the city allows it. Sleep matters more than one extra chapter in this month.

Practise the Way the Exam Is Scored

Reading a chapter and answering 50 questions on it in 60 minutes are different skills, and only the second one is examined. Timed practice also teaches you where the minus one hurts, which questions to leave, and how your accuracy falls in the last ten minutes.

Take your subject-wise mocks under real conditions, on a screen, with a clock running and no pauses, then check the analysis. ExamAtlas keeps the current pattern, the subject list and the practice sets updated on the CUET preparation hub, and the papers there follow the 50-question, plus-5-minus-1 structure that NTA used in 2026.

CUET UG 2027 Frequently Asked Questions

When will the CUET UG 2027 notification be released?

NTA has not announced a date as of 30 August 2026. The 2026 bulletin came out in early January 2026 with an application window of 3 to 30 January, so a late December 2026 to January 2027 release is the reasonable expectation. Confirm it on cuet.nta.nic.in rather than on any coaching page.

How many subjects can I choose in CUET UG 2027?

Up to five, counting languages and the General Aptitude Test together, going by the 2026 rule. Choosing fewer is often smarter. Each extra paper adds a fee, a separate 60-minute sitting and one more syllabus to revise.

Is there negative marking in CUET UG?

Yes. A correct answer gives 5 marks and a wrong answer takes away 1. Unattempted questions score zero. Because the reward is five times the penalty, an attempt after eliminating two options is usually worth making.

Are all 50 questions compulsory now?

Yes. The optional-question structure used in earlier cycles has been removed, and every paper in the 2026 cycle carried 50 compulsory questions in 60 minutes. Any guide still describing a choice of 40 out of 50 is out of date.

What is the CUET UG syllabus based on?

Domain papers follow the NCERT Class 12 syllabus for that subject. Language papers test reading comprehension and verbal ability. The General Aptitude Test covers basic quantitative reasoning, logical reasoning, general knowledge and current affairs.

What was the CUET UG 2026 application fee?

Rs 1000 for General, Rs 900 for OBC-NCL and EWS, and Rs 800 for SC, ST, PwBD and third gender candidates, each covering up to three subjects. Additional subjects cost Rs 400, Rs 375 and Rs 350 respectively. Candidates outside India paid Rs 4500 plus Rs 1800 per extra subject.

Does a good CUET score guarantee admission?

No. NTA only issues a normalised score. Each university then sets its own weightage, cut-off and counselling schedule, so you must register separately on every admission portal you are targeting and track those deadlines yourself.

Can Class 12 board preparation and CUET preparation run together?

Yes, and they should. The domain content is the same NCERT syllabus, so the difference is format and speed rather than material. Keep the board study as your content base and add weekly timed objective practice for the exam format.

Final Word

One thing this guide has not said yet, and it may be the most useful line in it. CUET UG rewards early form-filling far more than most exams, because your five-paper choice is locked at application time and cannot be repaired later with harder study. A candidate who picks the wrong domain subject in January 2027 has closed a course in May 2027 no matter how well they score.

So spend a serious evening in November 2026 on the boring part: list your target courses, open each university admission page, note the exact subject each course demands, and only then decide your five papers. Everything else in this guide is preparation, and preparation can be fixed. That one choice cannot.

Watch cuet.nta.nic.in for the official CUET UG 2027 bulletin, and keep the ExamAtlas CUET hub handy for the pattern, subject list and practice sets as the cycle opens.
