Bihar Public Service Commission declared the BPSC ASO Final Result 2026 on 27 October 2026 for Advertisement No. 37/2025, the recruitment for Assistant Section Officer posts inside the Commission itself. Out of 609 candidates who sat the Mains on 27 February 2026, only 41 made the final list. That is roughly one selection for every 15 people who reached the Mains hall.
This post breaks the official result notice down into what you actually need: the roll-number list, category-wise cut-off marks with the date-of-birth tie-break, how the merit list was built, why 11 candidates were dropped, and what to do next whether your roll number is on the list or not. Every figure below comes from the BPSC result notice dated 27 October 2026 unless it is marked "reported".

How 609 Mains Candidates Came Down to 41
The result notice lays out the filtering in clear stages. Reading it as a funnel makes the numbers easier to follow.
| Stage | Candidates | What happened |
|---|---|---|
| Appeared in Mains (27 Feb 2026) | 609 | Sat the General Hindi and General Knowledge papers |
| Disability claims sent to IGIMS, Patna | 13 | Medical check of disability percentage |
| Disability benefit denied | 11 | 5 found below the 40% benchmark, 6 did not turn up for the check; their Prelims result was cancelled |
| Combined merit list (GK marks) | 594 | Ranked by General Knowledge score |
| Provisional list for DV (10 Aug 2026) | 57 | Called for document verification |
| Absent at DV (24 Aug and 1 Sep 2026) | 3 | Removed from the result process |
| Final selected | 41 | Category-wise, against 41 vacancies |
The disability cases deserve a second look. Thirteen Mains candidates had claimed benchmark disability. BPSC sent all 13 for a medical check at IGIMS, Patna. Five came back below 40%, and six never appeared for the check at all. Those 11 lost the disability benefit, and since they had cleared Prelims on the strength of it, BPSC cancelled their Prelims result and declared them ineligible for Mains.
That is a hard lesson for every future applicant: a disability certificate is not the end of the process. If you claim a reserved benefit, keep your certificate current and show up for every verification call.
The same goes for the 3 candidates who skipped document verification. They were inside the top 57 and still walked out with nothing.
BPSC ASO Cut-off 2026: Category-wise Marks
BPSC published the cut-off marks along with a cut-off date of birth for each category. The marks are General Knowledge paper scores, since the merit list was prepared only on that paper.
| Category | Cut-off Marks | Cut-off Date of Birth |
|---|---|---|
| Unreserved | 115 | 19-01-1999 |
| Unreserved (Female) | 105 | 14-12-2000 |
| EWS | 108 | 12-12-1999 |
| EWS (Female) | 103 | 26-02-1997 |
| SC | 102 | 25-06-2000 |
| SC (Female) | 91 | 22-02-2000 |
| ST | 104 | 05-01-1998 |
| EBC | 113 | 06-08-1998 |
| BC | 113 | 14-06-1999 |
| BC (Female) | 103 | 15-06-1997 |
| BCL (Backward Class Ladies) | 103 | 15-04-2000 |
| Disabled (DD) | 87 | 20-01-1995 |
| Disabled (MD) | 85 | 03-11-1991 |
| Grandchild of Ex-Freedom Fighter | 100 | 25-12-1996 |
What does "cut-off date of birth" mean?
When two candidates score the same marks, BPSC places the older candidate higher. If the date of birth is also the same, the candidate whose name comes first in Devanagari alphabetical order goes up. The date in the table is the birth date of the last candidate selected at the cut-off mark.
So in the Unreserved category, a candidate with 115 marks born on or before 19 January 1999 was in the race for the last seat. A candidate with the same 115 marks born later missed out. One birthday can decide a government job, which is exactly why the tie-break rule matters.
Five things this cut-off table tells you
- UR at 115 is high for a GK paper. If the paper carries 150 marks, as the exam pattern reported in the notification states, that works out to about 77%.
- EBC and BC both closed at 113, only two marks below UR. With a single EBC seat, the one candidate who took it sat at merit serial 16.
- The women's lists closed 5 to 11 marks lower than their general counterparts: UR Female at 105, EWS Female at 103, SC Female at 91.
- SC Female at 91 is the lowest cut-off among non-disabled categories, while Disabled (MD) at 85 is the lowest overall.
- The Freedom Fighter grandchild category closed at 100, and that seat sits inside the BC list (merit serial 190).
Our honest read: anyone preparing for the next BPSC ASO cycle should aim for 120 or more in GK. A score of 110 looks safe on paper and still would not have cleared UR this time.
BPSC ASO Selected Candidates List 2026: Category-wise Summary
| Category | Vacancies | Selected | Merit serial range |
|---|---|---|---|
| Unreserved (UR) | 16 | 16 | 1 to 78 |

All 41 seats were filled. No category was left vacant, which does not always happen in small BPSC recruitments where reserved-category women's seats sometimes go unfilled. Out of 41, 15 selected candidates are women.
The top rank in the combined merit list went to Santosh Kumar (Roll No. 841942) in the Unreserved category.

Remarks key: FFD means Grandchild of Ex-Freedom Fighter; DD and MD are the disability sub-categories printed in the official notice. Always confirm your status in the official PDF on bpsc.bihar.gov.in, since the notice itself says clerical or typing errors may be corrected later.
Why Do Some High Ranks Appear in Reserved Lists?
A common question every result season: why is merit serial 12 in the SC list while merit serial 78 sits in Unreserved?
Ranks 1 to 11 filled the first 11 UR seats on pure merit (10 men and one woman at rank 2). The remaining five UR seats went to women at merit serials 33, 34, 59, 62 and 78, which reflects the horizontal reservation for women in Bihar state services. Candidates at ranks 12 to 17 (SC, BC and EBC) came after the open seats were already taken, so they were placed in their own categories.
Nothing irregular here. It is how vertical and horizontal reservation interact when the vacancy count is small.
BPSC ASO Mains Exam Pattern: Quick Recap
| Paper | Questions | Marks | Nature |
|---|---|---|---|
| General Hindi | 100 | 100 | Qualifying (30% required, not added to merit) |
| General Knowledge | 150 | 150 | Decides merit |
The paper structure above is as reported from the notification; the result notice confirms the merit list was built on General Knowledge marks alone. That single fact explains the whole result. General Hindi only has to be cleared. GK decides who gets the job.

BPSC ASO Marksheet 2026: When Will It Come?
The result notice says marksheets of all Mains candidates, except those declared ineligible, will be uploaded to each candidate's login ID soon. No date has been given yet.
Download it the day it appears. Your GK score against the 115 cut-off (or your category's figure) is the most useful data point you will get for planning the next attempt.
BPSC ASO Salary and Job Profile
As per the reported notification details, the ASO post carries Pay Level-7 (₹44,900 to ₹1,42,400) under the 7th Pay Commission structure, plus DA, HRA and other allowances. In-hand pay depends on the current DA rate and posting, so check the official notification for the exact figure.
The job itself is office work in the Commission's own secretariat in Patna: file noting, correspondence, and the administrative side of recruitment. For a graduate-level post, the pay and the Patna posting make this one of the better-placed jobs in Bihar's secretariat cadre.
Selected? What Happens Next
- BPSC will send its recommendation to the concerned department. Appointment letters and joining follow the department's own timeline.
- Keep originals of every document you showed at DV in one folder. Mismatch issues at joining are more common than people expect.
- Note point 1 of the notice: the result can be corrected if a clerical or typing error is found.
- Point 4 of the notice states that one candidate in the EWS list has an appointment subject to the outcome of a pending court case. This affects only that individual.
Not Selected? Use This Result, Don't Waste It
Most of the 609 Mains candidates are in this group, and many of them missed by 5 to 10 marks. Three things are worth doing this week.
- Download your marksheet the day it appears and write down your exact gap to your category cut-off.
- Split that gap by section. In a GK-only merit, a weak Mental Ability or Science-Maths block is usually where the marks leaked.
- Restart with timed full-length practice, not fresh notes. You already know the syllabus; speed and accuracy under time are what separate 108 from 118.
ExamAtlas has BPSC-pattern mock tests with AI analytics that show topic-wise accuracy after every attempt, which is the quickest way to see exactly which section is costing you marks.

Final Word
A 41-seat recruitment with a 115 cut-off tells you one thing clearly: BPSC's smaller posts are not easy backdoors. The last UR seat needed roughly 77% in GK, and the ranking came down to a single paper and, at the margin, a birth date.
If your roll number is on the list, finish your paperwork early. If it is not, wait for the marksheet, find the section where the gap sits, and give that section a measured month of timed practice before the next BPSC notification lands.
