Advt 15/2026 published something the earlier advertisement did not: a subject-wise break-up of all 32,388 posts, split by category and with the women's quota shown separately. Backlog posts are included in these figures.
This is the table that should decide your subject, not a coaching forward. Chemistry at Class 11-12 alone carries 3,695 posts, more than the entire Class 9-10 level put together.
Level totals first
Note the women's column before you read further. The horizontal reservation is 50% at the two junior levels and 35% at the two senior ones, and it applies only to women who are permanent residents of Bihar.
Class 1-5 subject-wise vacancy
Only three streams here, because this level has no subject paper in the exam. The stream decides the post, not the question paper.
General carries 3,065 of the 3,847 posts. Urdu at 757 is worth a look for anyone holding a Maulvi, Alim, Urdu Intermediate with 50 marks, or graduation in Urdu, because the qualification route is narrower and so is the field. Bangla has just 25 posts, and only one of them falls under the women's quota.
Class 6-8 subject-wise vacancy
Mathematics and Science leads with 2,188. But look at Sanskrit: 1,225 posts, more than Hindi and more than Urdu at the same level. Sanskrit turns up in the top half of the table every cycle and still draws a smaller field than English or Mathematics.
Social Science at 1,190 carries a condition worth remembering. Your graduation must have any two of History, Geography, Political Science, Philosophy, Economics, Commerce, Psychology, Sociology or Home Science, and the exam itself runs in two sections with a fixed pairing rule.
Class 9-10 subject-wise vacancy
This is the tightest level in the recruitment. Social Science tops it at 756 posts, and the whole level adds up to only 3,877 against Class 11-12's 16,101.
Two rows stand out for the right candidate. Sanskrit at 322 and Physical Education at 47 are small, but the pool of people holding a B.P.Ed or a Shastri with STET Paper-I is small too. Music has 2 posts, which is worth knowing before anyone builds a plan around it.
Class 11-12 subject-wise vacancy
Half this recruitment sits here. Twenty-two subjects, 16,101 posts.
The science block dominates. Chemistry 3,695, Physics 1,758, Botany 1,078 and Zoology 449 together account for more than 6,900 posts, which is over 40% of the level.
Then there are the rows nobody forwards on WhatsApp. Psychology has 1,030 posts and Music has 736. Computer Science carries 407 posts and is the one subject at this level where B.Ed is not mandatory. If you hold an M.C.A. or a post-graduate degree in Computer Science, that row deserves ten minutes of your attention.
The five biggest and five smallest
A small subject is not automatically a bad bet, and a large one is not automatically a good one. What matters is the ratio between posts and qualified applicants, and that ratio is usually kinder in Sanskrit, Music, Psychology and Home Science than in Chemistry.
That is our reading, not a rule in the notification. Treat it as a starting point and weigh it against your own preparation.
Subjects with no vacancy figure yet
Some subjects appear in the syllabus but carry no number in this advertisement. Under departmental letter 905 dated 15.08.2026, the supplementary requisition for these will be notified after it comes through the General Administration Department.
If your subject is on this list, keep preparing and watch bpsc.bihar.gov.in. Do not apply on the assumption of a number that has not been published.
How to read your own row
Three checks before you settle on a subject.
- Can you legally select it? You may choose only the subject in which you passed TET or STET, and only one even if you cleared several.
- Does your degree match? The subject groups at Class 9-10 and the post-graduate lists at Class 11-12 are specific. Our eligibility page has the full clauses.
- Read your category column, not just the total. A subject with 700 posts and 15 in your category is a different fight from one with 300 posts and 80 in your category.
That third point is where most people misjudge the table. The Total column is the headline, but your competition sits inside your own category.
A caution about the numbers
Two lines in the advertisement matter here. Vacancies may increase or decrease if the requisition is amended, and the district-wise, subject-wise and category-wise break-up is published on bpsc.bihar.gov.in.
So treat every figure on this page as the position on 22 September 2026. Before you pay the fee, open the official site once and confirm your own row, because the fee locks your post and subject and a cancelled payment is never refunded.
