BPSC TRE Notification 2026: 32,388 Vacancies, Dates and Fee
Advertisement No. 14/2026, dated 18.08.2026, is the document that opened the fourth phase of Bihar's school teacher recruitment. It carries 32,388 posts across four levels, which makes it the largest single teaching advertisement any Indian state has issued this year.
It is also a notification that has already been overtaken by events once. The application window it announced was postponed, and the exam structure it described was changed nine days after publication. This page holds every number from the advertisement plus what has changed since.
Advertisement 14/2026: the key facts
Vacancy split by level
Nearly half the advertisement, 16,101 posts, sits at Class 11-12. That is unusual. In TRE 3.0 the middle and primary levels carried most of the load. The shift reflects Bihar's push to staff its upgraded higher secondary schools, and it means a postgraduate with STET Paper-II is looking at the best odds in this cycle.
Category-wise vacancy
Look at the SC column. At 9,973 posts it is larger than the unreserved pool. Bihar's reservation roster combined with a large backlog carried forward from earlier phases produces this, and it is worth knowing if you are an SC candidate deciding whether this cycle is worth a serious attempt.
Horizontal reservation
Horizontal means these posts are carved out of the category totals above, not added on top. A BC woman with Bihar domicile is counted inside the BC column and then adjusted against the women quota. She does not get a separate seat.
The women quota is the one candidates most often misread. If you do not hold Bihar domicile, you compete in the open pool for your category with no gender benefit, regardless of where you studied.
Subject-wise vacancy
The subject-wise table for Class 6-8, 9-10 and 11-12 sits in the annexure of the official advertisement PDF. We are not reproducing an unverified version of it here, because the numbers in that annexure are exactly the kind that aggregator sites get wrong by a few hundred posts and nobody notices until the result.
Download the annexure from bpsc.bihar.gov.in and check your own subject. This matters more than the headline figure. A Class 11-12 candidate in Mathematics and one in Philosophy are looking at completely different competitions inside the same 16,101.
A supplementary requisition for Bangla, Maithili, Bhojpuri, Arabic, Farsi and Agriculture is pending with the department. Posts in these subjects may be added to the advertisement later.
Important dates
On the exam date, be careful about what you read elsewhere. Pages showing a late September exam window are quoting the February 2026 pre-notification schedule, and those same pages usually carry a much higher vacancy count as well. Advertisement 14/2026 superseded both.
Why the application was postponed
The postponement is not administrative drift. On 27 August 2026, after student protests, Bihar CM Samrat Choudhary announced that TRE 4.0 would be held in a single stage rather than the Prelims plus Mains structure printed in Advertisement 14/2026.
That decision invalidated parts of the published advertisement and the online form built around it. BPSC has to reissue the advertisement and rebuild the form before applications can open. The commission has signalled 21 September 2026 as a likely restart, using the word sambhavna, which means possibility.
Several large aggregator sites have already listed 21 September as a confirmed start date with an end date marked "updated soon". Treat that as a guess printed in a table, not as information.
Application fee
Rs 100 per level is a genuine change from TRE 3.0, where the fee was substantially higher and varied by category. If a site is showing you Rs 750 for General and Rs 200 for SC, ST and women, it has carried the TRE 3.0 fee structure forward without checking. This is currently one of the most common errors online.
Applying for two levels means paying Rs 100 twice. Enter your Aadhaar properly and you avoid the Rs 200 biometric charge entirely.
District preferences
You may give up to 38 district preferences in the form. The result is published only for the districts you select, which is a detail worth pausing on.
Candidates who fill only two or three preferred districts sometimes find that their marks would have cleared the cut-off in a district they never listed. Unless you have a hard reason to stay in one region, fill the list generously.
What to do before the revised advertisement lands
Your eligibility does not change with a reissued advertisement, and neither does your syllabus. Check the poori eligibility against your own certificates today, confirm the exam pattern you will actually face, and keep the form kaise bharein checklist open when the window opens. If you are weighing whether this job is worth it, the salary structure page has the in-hand numbers.
For the full cycle overview, the BPSC TRE complete guide ties all nine pages together.
Five mistakes people make reading this notification
- Treating 32,388 as your competition pool. You are not competing with 32,388 posts. You are competing inside one level, one subject and one category. A Class 9-10 Sanskrit candidate in the EBC column is looking at a number in the low hundreds, not tens of thousands.
- Assuming horizontal quota adds seats. It does not. The 7,563 women posts and 865 disability posts are carved out of the category columns, not added to them.
- Believing the 21 September date. The commission wrote possibility, not confirmation. Build your plan around readiness, not around a date that has already moved once.
- Paying the fee for a level you cannot actually clear the TET for. Every level has its own CTET, BTET or STET requirement. Rs 100 is small, but a rejected form is not.
- Ignoring the annexure. The headline numbers make news. The subject-wise annexure decides your result.
If you fix only one of these, fix the last one. Most aspirants in Bihar can name the 32,388 figure and cannot name how many posts exist in their own subject at their own level.
Frequently asked questions
What is the BPSC TRE 4.0 advertisement number?
Advertisement No. 14/2026, dated 18 August 2026, issued by the Bihar Public Service Commission for the Education Department, Government of Bihar.
How many vacancies are there in BPSC TRE 4.0?
32,388 posts. The split is 3,847 for Class 1-5, 8,563 for Class 6-8, 3,877 for Class 9-10 and 16,101 for Class 11-12. A supplementary requisition for several language subjects and Agriculture is pending, so the total may rise.
Why was the BPSC TRE 4.0 application postponed?
The advertisement published a two stage Prelims plus Mains pattern. On 27 August 2026 the Bihar CM announced a single stage exam instead. BPSC now has to issue a revised advertisement and rebuild the online form, which pushed the 1 September start.
What is the application fee for BPSC TRE 4.0?
Rs 100 per level for every category, plus Rs 200 biometric charge if Aadhaar details are not entered, plus bank charges. The Rs 750 figure circulating online belongs to TRE 3.0.
How many district preferences can I fill?
Up to 38. The result is published only for the districts you have chosen, so filling a narrow list can cost you a selection you would otherwise have got.
Has BPSC released the revised TRE 4.0 advertisement?
Not as of 13 September 2026. The commission site still carries only Advertisement 14/2026 dated 18.08.2026. Watch bpsc.bihar.gov.in for the reissue.
Why do some sites show a higher vacancy figure?
Those figures come from the February 2026 pre-notification schedule, published before the advertisement existed. Advertisement 14/2026 fixed the count at 32,388, which is the only number to use.
Final word
Notifications get read once and then forgotten, which is a mistake in this cycle specifically, because the document is being rewritten while you prepare. The two numbers worth memorising are 32,388 and Rs 100. Everything else, dates included, is still in motion.
When the revised advertisement arrives, the first thing to check is not the date. It is whether your subject's post count in the annexure moved.
