This is the post most candidates will get, and it appears in more than sixty departments, from Road Construction to Mines and Geology to the district civil surgeon's office. The work is office clerical: maintaining files and registers, drafting routine correspondence, data entry, and handling the paper flow of whichever section you are posted to.
The technical qualification column for this post almost always asks for computer operation and typing knowledge, and in several departments specifically Hindi and English typing. That is not a formality. It is the reason the typing test exists at the end of the selection process.
The single biggest concentration is in the Panchayati Raj department with 8,298 posts, followed by Municipal Development and Housing with 2,039. If you are trying to guess where you will end up, those two are the realistic answer.
Revenue Employee (राजस्व कर्मचारी)
Pay Level 2, Rs 19,900 to 63,200. 3,559 posts.
This is the second largest post in the recruitment and the one most candidates underestimate. A Revenue Employee works under the Revenue and Land Reforms department at the halka level, which means land records, mutation entries, rent collection and field verification rather than a desk in a district office.
Honest assessment: the pay level is the same as a clerk's, but the nature of the job is not. It is field work, it carries public dealing, and in rural Bihar it carries real responsibility over land records. Some candidates want exactly that and some very much do not. Decide which you are before you set your preference.
Panchayat Secretary (पंचायत सचिव)
Pay Level 3, Rs 21,700 to 69,100. 3,532 posts.
The best paid of the high volume posts, and the one worth targeting if you want both a decent start and a large number of seats. A Panchayat Secretary is the administrative officer of a gram panchayat: panchayat records, scheme implementation, meeting proceedings, and the paperwork that central and state rural schemes generate.
A full pay level above Lower Division Clerk on a base of 3,532 posts makes this the strongest value in the advertisement. The trade off is posting. Panchayat work is village level by definition, so proximity to a town is not something you should count on.
Pashu Sahayak (पशु सहायक)
Pay Level 2. 549 posts. Requires Intermediate with Biology.
Posted under the Animal and Fisheries Resources department, largely through the directorates of animal husbandry and the Gaya and Patna offices. The work supports veterinary and animal husbandry services at the field level.
The Biology condition narrows the field considerably. If you have Biology at 10+2, your competition on these 549 posts is a fraction of what it is on the general clerk pool, which is worth factoring into your preference order.
Junior Statistical Investigator (कनीय सांख्यिकी अन्वेषक)
Pay Level 2. 534 posts. Requires Maths, Economics or Statistics at 10+2.
Under the Directorate of Economics and Statistics in the Planning and Development department. The work is data collection and compilation for state statistical surveys, which suits candidates who are comfortable with numbers and field survey work.
Note the correct name. Several websites list a "Junior Regional Investigator" for this exam. No such post appears in the official table.
Filaria Inspector (फाइलेरिया निरीक्षक)
Pay Level 4, Rs 25,500 to 81,100. 69 posts. Requires Intermediate in Science.
The highest starting pay in this recruitment on a meaningful number of seats. Posted under the Health department, the role relates to filariasis control work in the field, which in Bihar is a long running public health programme.
Sixty nine posts against a Science stream requirement is a narrow gate, but Level 4 against Level 2 is roughly Rs 5,600 more in basic pay from day one, and that gap compounds through every DA revision and increment for the rest of your service.
Bench Clerk (बेंच क्लर्क)
Pay Level 2. 16 posts.
Under the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission. Bench clerk work is quasi judicial record keeping: case files, cause lists, order sheets and the paperwork of hearings. Only sixteen posts, so treat it as a preference to mark rather than a target to plan around.
Assistant Instructor (Typing) and Typist-cum-Clerk
Both Pay Level 4. Seven posts and two posts respectively.
Both sit in the Cabinet Secretariat department, the first under the Official Language directorate, and both require Hindi and English typing. These two are the reason some websites describe "Clerk-cum-Typist" as a major post in this recruitment. It is not. Between them these two posts account for nine vacancies out of 26,426.
If you have seen an article treating Clerk-cum-Typist as one of five main posts, that article is not working from the official table.
Which post should you prefer?
The comparison that actually matters is not clerk versus typist. It is these three, because they carry almost all the seats.
A straightforward way to decide. If you want the highest pay available at volume and do not mind village level posting, put Panchayat Secretary first. If you want a desk job in a department office, put Lower Division Clerk first and accept Level 2. If you are comfortable with field work and public dealing, Revenue Employee is the same pay as a clerk with more responsibility and, in most districts, more local standing.
If you have Biology or Maths at 10+2, mark Pashu Sahayak or Junior Statistical Investigator high regardless. The subject condition thins out the competition in a way no amount of extra preparation can.
Career growth
Promotion in Bihar's clerical cadre runs through departmental seniority and, for some posts, departmental examinations. The advertisement does not lay out a promotion ladder, and any specific timeline you see quoted elsewhere is not from this document.
What can be said from the pay matrix is simple. Level 2 and Level 3 are separate tracks from day one, and starting one level higher is worth more over a thirty year service than anything you can recover later.
