Last Updated: 7 October 2026 (evening). The detailed CEN 06/2026 is now out. Dates, photo rules and the correction window below are matched to it; the UG form will be updated when CEN 07/2026 is published on 14 October.

RRB NTPC apply online 2026 starts on 8 October 2026 for graduates (CEN 06/2026, 3,548 posts) and on 15 October 2026 for 12th-pass candidates (CEN 07/2026, 1,688 posts). Everything happens on one portal, rrbapply.gov.in, and the form itself takes about 20 minutes if your documents are ready.

The trouble is the small stuff. In every cycle thousands of forms get rejected for a blurred photo, a signature in block letters, or a second application sent "just to be safe". This guide walks you through each screen in order, with the rules RRB actually enforces.

RRB NTPC Apply Online 2026: Quick Steps

To apply for RRB NTPC 2026, create or log in to your account on rrbapply.gov.in, verify Aadhaar, choose CEN 06/2026 and one RRB, fill personal and education details, rank your posts, capture a live photo, upload your signature, pay the fee online, and submit before 6 November 2026.

  1. Create an account on rrbapply.gov.in (or log in with your 2024-25 RRB account).
  2. Authenticate your identity with Aadhaar or DigiLocker.
  3. Select CEN 06/2026 (Graduate) or CEN 07/2026 (UG) and choose one RRB.
  4. Fill personal, category and educational details exactly as on your certificates.
  5. Give post preferences, exam language, and scribe or SC/ST rail pass options.
  6. Capture a live photo and upload your signature (and SC/ST certificate if needed).
  7. Pay the fee online, submit, and download the confirmation page.

Scribe details (PwBD)No separate window printed; register your scribe within the application datesExpected in CEN 07/2026

The graduate dates above are official, from the detailed CEN 06/2026. The UG column still shows estimates: they follow the gaps RRB used in CEN 06/2025, as revised by its official corrigendum (application closed 27 November 2025, fee by 29 November, corrections from 30 November to 9 December). We will replace them the day CEN 07/2026 is printed.

Step 1: Create Your Account (One-Time Registration)

RRB uses a single account for all its recruitments. If you created an account for any RRB CEN in 2024 or 2025 (ALP, Technician, NTPC, Group D), use the same login. Do not create a second account.

New candidates click "Create an Account" and enter their name, father's name, date of birth, Aadhaar number, 10th roll number and year of passing, mobile number and email. Both the mobile number and the email are verified by OTP.

Fill this screen slowly. CEN 06/2026 (para 14.2) says the details in the "Create an Account" form, including mobile number and email ID, cannot be changed at any stage. A spelling error in your name here follows you to the admit card and DV.

Aadhaar or DigiLocker authentication

The latest RRB CEN advises candidates to authenticate their identity with Aadhaar or DigiLocker while creating the account. If you skip it, a "Verify Aadhaar" option appears inside the application, and it must be done before final submission. Candidates who verify with another photo ID face what RRB calls "significantly stricter and more detailed scrutiny" at every stage. Our advice: verify with Aadhaar, and first make sure the name and date of birth on your Aadhaar match your 10th certificate.

Step 2: Choose the CEN and One RRB

After logging in, pick CEN 06/2026 for graduate posts. If you are also applying for UG posts, you will fill a separate application under CEN 07/2026 from 15 October, with its own fee.

Next, choose one RRB. This choice is final. It cannot be changed even in the correction window, and an application to more than one RRB under the same CEN leads to rejection of all applications and possible debarment. Your seat comes only from the vacancies of the RRB you pick.

How to choose? The detailed CEN gives the RRB-wise split, and it is very uneven: Bilaspur has 542 graduate seats, Ranchi 377, Bengaluru 346 and Kolkata 332, while Patna has 29, Gorakhpur 30 and Ahmedabad only 19. Compare these with last cycle's cut-offs before you choose. The full RRB-wise table and the trade-offs for eastern aspirants are in our RRB NTPC notification 2026 pillar guide, and the post-wise numbers in our RRB NTPC vacancy 2026 breakup.

Step 3: Personal, Category and Education Details

  • Name and date of birth: as on your 10th certificate.
  • Community: UR, EWS, OBC-NCL, SC or ST. If you claim OBC-NCL or EWS, your certificate must be in the central government format the CEN prescribes. A state-format certificate is a common reason for losing the reserved seat at DV.
  • Education: degree details for graduate posts; 12th details for UG posts. Your qualification must be complete by the closing date. RRB's CENs say candidates "waiting for final results" should not apply.
  • Bank and Aadhaar: CEN 06/2026 (para 7.4) credits fee refunds only to the bank account seeded with your Aadhaar. Check that your Aadhaar is linked to an active account before you apply.

Not sure whether you qualify on age or marks? Our RRB NTPC eligibility 2026 guide with age relaxation table covers the date-of-birth ranges, the 12th 50% rule for UG posts and medical standards.

Step 4: Post Preferences, Exam Language, Scribe and SC/ST Rail Pass

Post preferences

You rank the posts you want. Allotment after CBT-2 follows your merit and these preferences, so the order matters. For the 2026 graduate CEN the posts are Goods Train Manager, Chief Commercial cum Ticket Supervisor, Senior Clerk cum Typist and Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist.

Two checks before you rank. First, medical standard: Goods Train Manager is an A-2 post, which needs 6/9 vision in each eye without glasses, and RRB has not allowed candidates with LASIK surgery for A-2 and A-3 posts. Second, computer skills: CEN 06/2026 has dropped the typing test for Senior Clerk and JAA, but it says basic computer proficiency is still expected and will be assessed after joining, which can affect confirmation or promotion. Our RRB NTPC salary and post preference strategy compares the posts on pay and work.

Exam language

RRB has offered the CBT in English plus 14 other languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Odia, Urdu and Marathi. If the translation differs from English, the English version prevails, so Hindi-medium candidates should still read the English line on tricky questions.

Scribe and SC/ST rail pass

  • PwBD candidates who need a scribe tick that option. CEN 06/2026 asks candidates to make sure the scribe is registered with the RRB within the online application dates, so do not leave it for later.
  • SC/ST candidates can opt for a sleeper-class railway pass (no fare) to travel to exam and DV centres. CEN 06/2026 asks for the SC/ST certificate as a PDF upload for this.

Step 5: Live Photo and Signature Upload Rules

This is where most rejections happen. Since the 2025-26 CENs, RRB asks for a live photo taken during the application, not an old scanned picture.

ItemRequirement (CEN 06/2026 and recent RRB CENs)
PhotoLive image captured with webcam or phone front camera during the application
Photo conditionsPure plain white background, non-white clothing, head covering at least 50% of the frame, full face visible with eyes open; no cap, mask or dark glasses (CEN 06/2026)
Signature formatJPG/JPEG
Signature size30 KB to 49 KB, at least 140 x 60 pixels (as in recent RRB CENs; check the portal prompt)
Signature styleSigned by the candidate in black ink on white paper (CEN 06/2026); running handwriting, no capital, block or disjointed letters
SC/ST certificate (rail pass)PDF (CEN 06/2026); past CENs capped it at 500 KB

Live photo tips that work

  • Sit in front of a plain white wall with light on your face, not behind you, and wear clothes that are not white.
  • Remove spectacles if they reflect light; remove caps and masks.
  • Look the way you will look on exam day. RRB matches your photo against your face at the CBT, DV and medical.
  • Do not capture from a cyber cafe crowd or a moving bus. A blurred live photo can get the form rejected later, even after the fee is paid.

Signature rules RRB is strict about

Your signature must be the same at every stage: application, CBT attendance sheet, DV and medical. Past CENs warn that a mismatch can lead to disqualification and debarment from all railway recruitments. Sign the way you sign on your bank papers, in running hand, and scan it clean.

Step 6: Pay the RRB NTPC Application Fee

CategoryFeeRefund after appearing in CBT-1
General, OBC, EWS₹500₹400 (minus bank charges)
SC, ST, Ex-servicemen, PwBD, Female, Transgender, Minorities, EBC₹250₹250 (minus bank charges)
  • Payment is online only: net banking, debit card, credit card or UPI. Service charges are paid by you.
  • The refund comes only if you actually sit CBT-1. Incomplete or rejected applications get no refund.
  • CEN 06/2026 sends refunds to your Aadhaar-seeded bank account, so a closed or unlinked account means a stuck refund.

Step 7: Submit and Download the Confirmation

Preview the whole form before you hit submit. Check name, date of birth, category, RRB, post order, photo and signature. After submission, download the confirmation page and save the registration number and password in two places. Your city intimation slip, e-call letter, answer key login and result all use them.

RRB NTPC Application Correction Window 2026: What You Can and Cannot Change

CEN 06/2026 fixes the modification window at 9 to 18 November 2026 for the graduate form, at ₹250 for each occasion. The UG window will come in CEN 07/2026.

RuleDetail (past RRB CENs)
Modification fee₹250 for each occasion, non-refundable
Cannot be changedCreate-an-Account details (name, date of birth, mobile, email and others on that form) and the chosen RRB
Can be changedOther application details, such as post preferences, education entries and exam language
Community changeFrom SC/ST to UR, OBC or EWS: pay the ₹250 fee difference plus the modification fee
After the windowRRB does not entertain any request for changes

Our suggestion: do not plan to "fix it later". Every correction costs ₹250, and some fields can never be fixed.

Documents to Keep Ready Before You Apply

  • 10th certificate (name and date of birth)
  • Degree certificate or final-year marksheet with result date (Graduate); 12th marksheet (UG)
  • Caste, OBC-NCL or EWS certificate in the central format; PwBD certificate if applicable
  • Aadhaar card, with mobile number linked for OTP
  • Scanned signature as per the specs above
  • Active bank account linked to Aadhaar (for refund)
  • A few recent passport-size colour photographs for exam day and DV

Common Mistakes That Get RRB NTPC Forms Rejected

  1. Applying to two RRBs, or twice to the same RRB. All applications get rejected.
  2. Blurred, dark or cropped live photo.
  3. Signature in capital letters, or a different signature at DV.
  4. Applying while your final-year result is still awaited.
  5. Wrong category, or an OBC/EWS certificate in a state format.
  6. Paying the fee but not clicking final submit.
  7. Waiting for the last day. In the last cycle RRB extended the closing date by a week, but there is no guarantee it will happen again.

Should You Apply for Both Graduate and UG Forms?

If you are a graduate, you can apply under both CENs, because a degree also meets the 12th-pass requirement (and the 50% marks condition for UG posts does not apply to candidates with a higher qualification). One preparation covers both exams. It costs a second fee, but for most graduate aspirants it doubles the chances for the same syllabus. Read RRB NTPC graduate vs undergraduate: which form to fill before deciding.

What Happens After You Apply?

  • Application status: in the last cycle RRB published the status (accepted or rejected, with reasons) about two months after the closing date.
  • City intimation slip: about 10 days before CBT-1.
  • E-call letter (admit card): about 4 days before your exam date.
  • CBT-1 date: not announced yet. Last cycle's gap points to February to March 2027, though December 2026 is also being discussed.

Use the gap well. Start with the RRB NTPC syllabus 2026 with section-wise weightage, then follow a dated plan from our RRB NTPC preparation strategy 2026.

CEN 06/2026 uses a live photo captured during the application, with a pure plain white background and your head covering at least 50% of the frame. The signature is JPG/JPEG in black ink; recent RRB CENs set it at 30 to 49 KB and at least 140 x 60 pixels.

No. RRB's CENs say candidates awaiting final results should not apply. You must hold the qualification by the closing date.

What is the RRB NTPC application fee for 2026?

Final Word on RRB NTPC Apply Online 2026

RRB NTPC apply online 2026 is simple on paper and unforgiving in practice. Two fields decide most outcomes: the RRB you choose, which you can never change, and the photo-signature pair, which follows you to the DV table.

A practical plan: fill the form in the first week, between 8 and 15 October, when the portal is quiet. Then use the time others spend refreshing the portal on 5 November to take your first full mock.
