The UR band was narrow: about 81.5 to 83.3 in most large RRBs. The ex-servicemen cut-offs were much lower (49.03 in Patna, 33.56 in Muzaffarpur). For every RRB and stage, see our full RRB NTPC cut off analysis.

What the UG CBT-1 Paper Looked Like

The UG CBT-1 followed the standard pattern: 100 questions in 90 minutes, with 40 from General Awareness, 30 from Mathematics and 30 from Reasoning, and a 1/3 mark penalty for wrong answers. Analyses of the 7 May shifts rated the paper easy to moderate, with about 78 to 84 good attempts overall.

General Awareness made the difference. Current affairs and static GK took a large share of the 40 questions, while Maths stayed arithmetic-heavy and Reasoning was mostly easy. That fits the cut-offs: when a paper is easy, the cut-off rises and accuracy matters more than speed. If you are preparing for the next cycle, read our RRB NTPC syllabus 2026 with chapter-wise weightage from these same shifts.

How Many Were Shortlisted for CBT-2?

About 46,000 candidates were shortlisted for CBT-2 across all RRBs (published figures range from 45,898 to 45,998) for 3,058 posts, roughly 15 times the vacancies. Shortlisting was category-wise and followed each candidate's post preferences, which is why one RRB can show different cut-offs for different post codes.

RRB-wise numbers varied with seats. RRB Patna shortlisted 360 candidates and RRB Muzaffarpur 586 for CBT-2, against just 24 and 39 UG seats.

Reading Your NTPC UG Scorecard

  • Raw marks: +1 for each correct answer, minus 1/3 for each wrong one, out of 100.
  • Normalised marks: your raw score adjusted for shift difficulty with RRB's percentile-based method. This is the number compared with the cut-off.
  • Qualifying status: previous CENs set minimum marks of 40% (UR, EWS), 30% (OBC, SC) and 25% (ST). Clearing these does not guarantee shortlisting.

If you were not shortlisted, the scorecard tells you the size of the gap. Compare your normalised score with your RRB's row; a gap under 3 marks usually means the 2026 cycle is very winnable with focused practice.

What Next: CBT-2 Result, Typing Test and DV

For those shortlisted, CBT-2 was held on 17 September 2026. The answer key came on 24 September and objections closed on 30 September. The CBT-2 result is the next milestone, expected between late October and early November 2026 based on past gaps. Follow it on our RRB NTPC UG CBT 2 result 2026 tracker.

There is no aptitude test (CBAT) for UG posts. Junior Clerk and Accounts Clerk candidates take a qualifying typing test, and all selected candidates go through document verification and medical. The whole process is explained in our RRB NTPC UG CBT 2 complete guide.

Missed the Cut? The 2026 Cycle Is Open

If CBT-1 did not go your way, the next chance is close. The new UG notification, CEN 07/2026, has 1,688 posts, with applications from 15 October to 13 November 2026, and the graduate CEN 06/2026 has 3,477 posts. Details are in the RRB NTPC notification 2026 guide.
