Last Updated: 7 October 2026. CBT-2 was held on 17 September 2026; the result is awaited. Dates marked "expected" are our estimates from previous cycles, not RRB announcements.

The RRB NTPC UG CBT 2 for CEN 07/2025 is done. About 46,000 candidates were shortlisted for it, and it was held on 17 September 2026 for 3,058 undergraduate posts, and the answer key window closed on 30 September. What most candidates now want to know is simple: what happens next, in what order, and how long will it take?

This guide answers that for every UG post: the result, normalisation, the typing skill test, document verification, the medical, and how the final merit and post allotment are decided. It also tells you what to do in each gap, because the gaps in RRB recruitment are long.

RRB NTPC UG CBT 2: The Full Process After 17 September

After RRB NTPC UG CBT 2, RRB declares the result RRB-wise, calls Junior Clerk and Accounts Clerk candidates for a qualifying typing test, then calls shortlisted candidates for document verification and medical. Final merit rests on CBT-2 normalised marks. There is no aptitude test for UG posts.

  1. CBT-2 result and scorecards (expected late October to early November 2026).
  2. Computer-based typing skill test (CBTST) for Junior Clerk cum Typist and Accounts Clerk cum Typist.
  3. Document verification (DV) for candidates shortlisted on CBT-2 merit (and typing, where applicable).
  4. Medical examination as per each post's medical standard.
  5. Final panel, post allotment by merit and preference, and offer through the railway zone.

How RRB Normalises Your CBT-2 Score

When an exam runs in more than one shift, RRB normalises scores so that a tougher shift does not hurt anyone. Its current method, set out in its notice of 4 November 2024, works like this:

  • Your percentile within your own shift is calculated: the share of candidates in that shift who scored equal to or below you.
  • RRB picks a base shift, the one with the highest average score among shifts that have enough candidates.
  • Your percentile is mapped onto the marks of the base shift, interpolating between the nearest points. That mapped figure is your normalised score.
  • Ties are broken by age (older candidate first) and then by name in alphabetical order.

In practice, a candidate from a hard shift often gains a mark or two, and one from an easy shift may lose a little. Your response-sheet score is therefore an estimate, not your final number.

RRB NTPC UG Typing Skill Test (CBTST)

Only two UG posts carry a typing test: Junior Clerk cum Typist and Accounts Clerk cum Typist. Commercial cum Ticket Clerk and Trains Clerk candidates skip this stage.

RuleDetail (RRB's CBTST rules in the last cycle)
Speed needed30 words per minute in English or 25 words per minute in Hindi
Duration10 minutes of typing, after a 1-minute practice
EquipmentPersonal computer, no editing tools or spell check
MistakesA small margin of mistakes is ignored; beyond it, each mistake reduces your net words
NatureQualifying only; marks are not added to merit
ExemptionCan be extended to candidates with blindness or low vision, cerebral palsy or locomotor disability of 40% or more

Coaching sites report that RRB calls about 8 times the vacancies for the typing test, but we could not confirm that figure in the CEN, so treat it as indicative. What is certain is that the typing test is a pass or fail gate. Many candidates with good CBT-2 scores have been knocked out here by nerves and an unfamiliar keyboard.

How to prepare for CBTST in the next few weeks

  • Type 20 to 30 minutes daily on a desktop keyboard, not a laptop or phone.
  • Practise 10-minute passages, because stamina matters more than a 1-minute burst.
  • If you chose Hindi typing, check the keyboard layout allowed in your CBTST call letter and practise only on that layout.
  • Aim for 35 wpm in English or 30 in Hindi in practice; exam-day nerves cost about 5 wpm for most people.

Document Verification: What to Carry

RRB issues DV call letters to candidates shortlisted on CBT-2 merit (and typing, for typist posts). Missing or mismatched documents are the most common reason good scorers lose a seat at this stage.

  • 10th certificate (name and date of birth proof)
  • 12th marksheet and certificate (and graduation documents if you have them, since the 50% rule is waived for higher qualification)
  • Caste certificate (SC/ST), OBC-NCL certificate or EWS certificate in the central government format the CEN prescribes, valid for the period it specifies
  • PwBD or ex-servicemen certificates, if applicable
  • Photo ID (Aadhaar or another valid ID) and passport-size photos matching your application photo
  • Your application printout and DV call letter
  • Self-attested photocopies of everything

The certificate format rules are covered in our RRB NTPC eligibility 2026 guide. If your OBC or EWS certificate is in a state format, get the central-format version made now; it can take weeks.

Medical Examination for UG Posts

PostMedical standardDistance vision
Commercial cum Ticket ClerkB-26/9, 6/12 with or without glasses (up to 4D)
Trains ClerkA-36/9, 6/9 with or without glasses (up to 2D)
Junior Clerk, Accounts ClerkC-26/12, nil with or without glasses

These standards are from RRB's previous UG CEN. A-3 also needs colour, binocular and night vision tests, and candidates who have had LASIK have not been eligible for A-3 posts. If you are close to the limit, get a proper eye test now so there are no surprises at the railway hospital.

Final Merit and Post Allotment

Final merit for UG posts is drawn from CBT-2 normalised marks. The typing test only decides whether you remain in the race for typist posts. Within your RRB, candidates are placed in merit order and allotted posts according to their preferences, category and the vacancies available.

This is where your post preference order from the application matters. A high scorer who ranked Commercial cum Ticket Clerk first will get it ahead of a lower scorer; a candidate who left a post out cannot be considered for it at all. After DV and medical, RRB sends the panel to the railway zone, which issues offers and training orders.

Pay for each post, from Level 2 to Level 3, is explained in our RRB NTPC salary guide.

How Long Will It Take? Expected Timeline

The previous UG cycle (CEN 06/2024) is the best guide. Its CBT-2 was on 20 December 2025, the result and typing-test shortlist came around 23 January 2026, and document verification and medical were held in June 2026 in at least one RRB. That is roughly six months from CBT-2 to DV.

Stage (CEN 07/2025)Expected windowBasis
CBT-2 resultLate October to early November 202634 to 48 day gap in recent cycles
Typing skill testAbout 4 to 8 weeks after the resultPrevious cycles
Document verification and medicalEarly to mid 2027About 5 months after the result in CEN 06/2024

These are estimates only. RRB sometimes speeds up, sometimes slows down when several CENs overlap, and the 2026 notifications are running at the same time.

How the Graduate Cycle Is Moving: A Useful Comparison

The graduate CEN 06/2025 is running about two months ahead of the UG cycle, so it shows what is coming:

StageGraduate CEN 06/2025UG CEN 07/2025
CBT-210 July 202617 September 2026
CBT-2 result27 August 2026Awaited
Typing test (CBTST)24 September 2026 (tentative)Not announced
Aptitude test (CBAT)30 September 2026 (Station Master only)Not applicable
Document verificationNot announcedNot announced

The graduate typing test came about four weeks after its CBT-2 result. If the UG cycle follows the same rhythm, UG typists should expect their test roughly a month after the CBT-2 result.

Not Shortlisted After CBT-2? Read This First

If your roll number is not in the next-stage list, check three things before you decide anything:

  • Your normalised score on the scorecard, compared with the cut-off row for your post code and category.
  • Your post preferences: you may have cleared one post code's cut-off but not the ones you ranked.
  • A second list: RRBs sometimes issue supplementary lists later if selected candidates drop out or fail DV and medical.

Then move on fast. Candidates who reached CBT-2 already have the level for the 2026 exam; the cut-off tables in our RRB NTPC cut off analysis show how close most rows are.

What to Do in Each Waiting Period

  • Now to the result: typing practice if you chose a typist post; collect and correct documents; fill the 2026 forms.
  • Result to typing test: daily 10-minute timed typing; read the CBTST call letter for the layout and venue.
  • Typing test to DV: medical self-check, central-format certificates, and a backup plan in the 2026 cycle.

The new cycle matters even if you expect selection. CEN 07/2026 (1,688 UG posts) opens on 15 October and CEN 06/2026 (3,477 graduate posts) on 8 October. Details are in the RRB NTPC notification 2026 guide. A selection is not final until DV and medical are cleared, and the form costs little compared with a lost year.
