IBPS Clerk is the single largest clerical recruitment in Indian public sector banking. This cycle, CRP CSA-XVI, carries 11,403 Customer Service Associate posts across eleven public sector banks, with the Prelims fixed for 10 and 11 October 2026 and the Mains for 27 December 2026.

Where this cycle stands today
Registration is over. Pre-Exam Training call letters for eligible reserved-category candidates go out in September. The prelims call letter has not been released and, going by how IBPS has handled clerical cycles before, it should appear in the first week of October.

The pattern change that matters this cycle
The Mains has been revised. Quantitative Aptitude has gone from 35 questions to 40, the total from 155 to 160, and the duration from 120 minutes to 125. Total marks stay at 200.
That is five extra Quant questions in a paper where the final merit list is built. It is a small-sounding change with a real consequence: Quant now carries the same question count as every other section, so a candidate who was planning to survive Mains on Reasoning and Awareness alone has less room than in previous cycles.

How selection actually works
Three stages, and only one of them counts towards your rank.
- Prelims. Qualifying only. You clear it, you move on. The marks are used for shortlisting and then discarded.
- Mains. This is the exam. The state-wise merit list is built purely on your Mains aggregate.
- Language Proficiency Test. Conducted after Mains for candidates who cannot show class 10 or 12 study of the local language. Qualifying in nature, but failing it ends your candidature.
There is no interview at clerical level and has not been one since 2016. So a candidate who scrapes through Prelims at the cut-off and then scores well in Mains is in exactly the same position as someone who topped the Prelims.
Eligibility, and the rule most people get wrong
A bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognised university, computer literacy, and age between 20 and 28 years as on 1 August 2026, with the usual relaxations of five years for SC and ST, three for OBC non-creamy layer, and ten for PwBD.
The part that causes the most rejections is local language proficiency. You must be able to read, write and speak the official language of the state or union territory you applied for. This is verified, and it is not a formality.

Vacancy spread
The 11,403 posts are distributed state-wise, category-wise and bank-wise. Uttar Pradesh has the largest share at 1,731, followed by Karnataka at 1,414 and Maharashtra at 1,051. Ladakh has the smallest at 6.
Worth knowing: the bank-wise table published with the notification allocates the full 11,403 across ten banks, with Union Bank of India shown as NR. Canara Bank has the largest single share at 2,500, then Punjab National Bank at 2,016.

What to study
Prelims covers three subjects: English Language, Numerical Ability and Reasoning Ability. Mains adds General and Financial Awareness and folds Computer Aptitude into Reasoning.
The Awareness section is the one you cannot compress. Fifty marks of banking and current affairs cannot be built in the three weeks between the Prelims result and the Mains, which is why serious candidates start it alongside Prelims preparation rather than after.

Cut off trends
Prelims cut-offs are released state-wise and category-wise out of 100, and they swing a lot. In the 2025 cycle the UR prelims cut-off was 86.50 in Chandigarh and 45.25 in Gujarat. That spread is not a difficulty difference, it is a vacancy-to-candidate ratio difference.

Pay and the job itself
Starting basic pay is Rs 24,050, rising to Rs 64,480 over roughly twenty years of the scale. In-hand in a metro posting works out to around Rs 40,000 to Rs 42,000 once DA, HRA and allowances are counted, and less in tier-2 and tier-3 towns because HRA is city-linked.

How to prepare from here
With the Prelims on 10 October, this is revision territory. Sectional locks of 20 minutes mean each section has to stand on its own, so the honest question is not how many questions you attempt but which section is quietly costing you the cut-off.

Frequently asked questions
When is the IBPS Clerk 2026 exam?
Prelims is on 10 and 11 October 2026 across multiple shifts, and Mains is on 27 December 2026. Both dates come from the CRP CSA-XVI notification. Your specific date and shift will be printed on the prelims call letter.
Can I still apply for IBPS Clerk 2026?
No. The application window ran from 1 August to 28 August 2026 after an extension from the original 21 August deadline, and it is closed. The next CRP CSA cycle is normally notified around July or August the following year.
How many vacancies are there and how are they split?
11,403 in total. Category-wise it is 4,740 UR, 2,815 OBC, 1,910 SC, 996 EWS and 942 ST. The bank-wise table distributes the full count across ten banks, with Union Bank of India listed as NR at the time of notification.
Do Prelims marks count in the final merit list?
No. Prelims is purely qualifying. The state-wise merit list is prepared from Mains marks alone, and there is no interview at clerical level.
What changed in the Mains pattern this year?
Quantitative Aptitude went from 35 questions to 40, taking the total from 155 to 160, and the duration went from 120 minutes to 125. Total marks remain 200 and the four sections are unchanged.
Is the local language requirement really enforced?
Yes. You must be able to read, write and speak the official language of the state or UT you applied for. Candidates who cannot produce class 10 or 12 documentation of that language sit a Language Proficiency Test after the Mains, and failing it ends the candidature.
What is the starting salary?
Basic pay starts at Rs 24,050. With DA, HRA and other allowances, in-hand in a metro posting is roughly Rs 40,000 to Rs 42,000 per month, lower in smaller cities because HRA depends on the city tier.
When will the admit card be released?
IBPS has not announced a date. Based on earlier clerical cycles, expect the prelims call letter in the first week of October 2026, around seven to ten days before the exam.
One thing to fix this week
Open your application printout and check which photo ID you declared, because that is the one the centre expects on exam day. It is a two-minute job now and a serious problem at the gate on 10 October.
After that, stop refreshing ibps.in and go take a timed mock. The gap between candidates who clear and candidates who narrowly miss is almost never knowledge. It is the third section, when 20 minutes are left and the panic sets in.
