IBPS Clerk Notification 2026: 11,403 Vacancies, Apply by 21 August

The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection released the CRP CSA-XVI notification on 1 August 2026 for 11,403 Customer Service Associate posts across 11 public sector banks. Registration closes on 21 August 2026, which leaves nine days.

If you looked at the SBI Clerk notification last week and found no vacancies for your state, this is the one that matters to you. IBPS releases vacancies for every State and Union Territory, so Bihar and Jharkhand candidates can apply against their own state here rather than committing to a five-year posting somewhere else.

The Post Has a New Name

IBPS has formally retitled the clerical cadre post to Customer Service Associate. Everyone still searches for it as IBPS Clerk, and the job is the same, but the notification, your application form and your eventual appointment letter will all say CSA. Do not get confused when the official PDF never uses the word "clerk".

Why This Notification Matters More for Bihar and Jharkhand

Two large banking notifications are live at the same time this month, and they are not equivalent for our region.

A Patna or Ranchi graduate applying for SBI Clerk has to pick Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh or Uttar Pradesh and accept a posting there with no transfer route out for five years. Under IBPS, you apply for your own state and stay in it. For most aspirants reading this, that difference is worth more than the vacancy count.

One condition still applies. IBPS recruitment is State and UT specific, you may apply for only one State or UT, and you must be proficient in that state's local language. Our SBI Clerk notification guide covers the other side of this decision if you are weighing both.

The Vacancy Number Deserves an Honest Look

11,403 sounds large until you compare it with last year.

CycleVacancies
IBPS Clerk 2025 (CRP Clerk-XV)15,751
IBPS Clerk 2026 (CRP CSA-XVI)11,403

That is a drop of roughly 28 percent in a single cycle, against an applicant pool that has not shrunk. Around 20 lakh candidates applied last year. Expect the cut-off to move up, not down.

Two caveats work in your favour. IBPS describes these vacancies as indicative and participating banks may report additional requirements during the process. Union Bank of India has been listed as participating but has not reported its vacancy count, marked NR in the notification. If those numbers arrive later, the total rises. IBPS also maintains a reserve list of roughly 30 percent of vacancies per category, so provisional allotment continues past the first list.

The 11 Participating Banks

  • Bank of Baroda
  • Bank of India
  • Bank of Maharashtra
  • Canara Bank
  • Central Bank of India
  • Indian Bank
  • Indian Overseas Bank
  • Punjab National Bank
  • Punjab and Sind Bank
  • UCO Bank
  • Union Bank of India

Canara Bank has reported the highest vacancy count and Punjab and Sind Bank the lowest. Your bank preference in the form is not decoration. Allotment runs on merit and preference together, so put the banks with the densest branch network in your state near the top. In Bihar and Jharkhand, Central Bank of India, Punjab National Bank and Bank of India carry heavy branch presence, which usually translates into a posting closer to home.

IBPS Clerk Exam Pattern 2026

Preliminary Examination

SectionQuestionsMarksTime
English Language303020 minutes
Numerical Ability353520 minutes
Reasoning Ability353520 minutes
Total10010060 minutes

Each section is separately timed at 20 minutes and locks when the timer ends. Negative marking is 0.25 per wrong answer.

Here is the rule that quietly eliminates people. To reach the Mains you must clear the minimum sectional cut-off in each of the three sections, and the overall cut-off. Scoring 45 on the strength of Reasoning and Numerical while collapsing in English does not get you through. This is different from SBI Clerk, where no minimum qualifying marks are prescribed for individual tests. If you are preparing for both exams, that distinction should change how you allocate your English practice.

Main Examination

SectionMarks
General and Financial Awareness50
General English40
Reasoning Ability and Computer Aptitude60
Quantitative Aptitude50
Total200

Sections are separately timed here too, and negative marking stays at 0.25.

IBPS has revised the Mains pattern for this cycle, and coverage of the exact figures does not agree. Reported question counts vary between 155 and 160, and duration between 120 and 125 minutes. Take the official CRP CSA-XVI notification PDF as the only authority on this, and treat any blog quoting one figure with certainty, including the totals above, as needing verification against that PDF.

What is not in dispute: Reasoning Ability and Computer Aptitude carries 60 marks, the highest weight of any section. Your puzzle practice and computer knowledge revision deserve time in proportion.

Local Language Proficiency Test

Conducted after the Mains for candidates who cannot produce class 10 or class 12 evidence of having studied the specified local language of their chosen State or UT.

How Selection Actually Works

There is no interview. Prelims marks are used only for shortlisting and do not enter the final merit list. Your Mains aggregate alone determines your state-wise merit position and your provisional allotment to a bank.

The practical reading: Prelims is a gate, Mains is the exam. Clear the gate efficiently, then treat the Mains as a fresh start where your earlier score counts for nothing.

Exam Dates

As per the IBPS calendar for 2026-27, the Prelims is scheduled for 10 and 11 October 2026 and the Mains for 27 December 2026. Calendar dates have shifted in past cycles, so confirm against the notification and your call letter when it arrives.

Working backwards from 10 October, you have roughly eight weeks of preparation. That is a real runway if you start this week.

Salary

ComponentFigure
Starting basic pay₹24,050
Pay scale ceiling₹64,480 over roughly 20 years
Reported starting in-handAround ₹40,000 to ₹42,000 per month

The in-hand figure includes Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, City Compensatory Allowance and other benefits, and it varies with your posting city. A Tier-2 or Tier-3 branch in Bihar or Jharkhand will pay less in hand than a metro posting because HRA is city-linked. Treat ₹40,000 as a metro-weighted number, not a promise.

How to Apply

  1. Go to ibps.in and open the CRP CSA link on the home page.
  2. Click through to apply online for CRP Customer Service Associates (CRP-CSA-XVI).
  3. Complete New Registration with your basic details. Save the provisional registration number and password.
  4. Fill in personal, educational and category details, and select your State or UT. Remember, one State or UT only.
  5. Upload your photograph, signature, left thumb impression and handwritten declaration as per the notification specifications.
  6. Set your bank preferences carefully.
  7. Pay the fee online and take a printout of the system-generated application.

The exam is conducted in 13 regional languages besides English and Hindi, so choose your medium deliberately rather than defaulting to English out of habit.

An Eight-Week Plan That Fits This Timeline

  1. Weeks 1 to 2: fix your weakest Prelims section. Sectional cut-offs mean your worst section decides your fate, not your best one. Identify it honestly with one timed mock, then work on it first.
  2. Practise in 20-minute sectional blocks from day one. Both stages use separate section timers. A flat 60-minute mock trains the wrong reflex.
  3. Weeks 3 to 6: build accuracy, not attempt count. At 0.25 negative marking, 60 questions at 90 percent accuracy beats 80 questions at 70 percent. Track accuracy per section, not just totals.
  4. Start General and Financial Awareness now, not after Prelims. It carries 50 Mains marks and cannot be crammed in the three-week gap between stages. Six months of banking and economy current affairs is the working window.
  5. Weeks 7 to 8: full-length mocks twice a week, scored honestly, with a written note on which section leaked marks and why.

ExamAtlas has free IBPS Clerk mock tests in the exact sectional-timer format in Hindi and English, with analytics that flag which section is sitting below the sectional cut-off rather than showing you a single overall percentage.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the last date to apply for IBPS Clerk 2026?

21 August 2026. The registration window opened on 1 August 2026 and applications are accepted only online at ibps.in.

Are there IBPS Clerk vacancies for Bihar and Jharkhand?

Yes. IBPS releases vacancies State and UT wise across the country, unlike the SBI Clerk regular advertisement which carried no Bihar or Jharkhand posts. Check the official CRP CSA-XVI notification PDF for your state's exact count, since you may apply for one State or UT only.

Is there an interview in IBPS Clerk selection?

No. Selection is decided entirely by the Main Examination aggregate. Prelims marks are used only for shortlisting and carry no weight in the final merit list.

What is the IBPS Clerk application fee for 2026?

₹850 for General, OBC and EWS candidates, and ₹175 for SC, ST and PwBD candidates. The fee is non-refundable and payable online.

Does IBPS Clerk Prelims have sectional cut-offs?

Yes. You must clear the minimum cut-off in each of the three Prelims sections as well as the overall cut-off. Strength in one section cannot compensate for falling below the cut-off in another.

Why are IBPS Clerk vacancies lower this year?

The count fell from 15,751 in the 2025 cycle to 11,403 for CRP CSA-XVI, reflecting the manpower requirements reported by participating banks. Union Bank of India has not reported its figures yet, and IBPS states that banks may report additional vacancies during the process, so the total could rise.

Nine Days, One Decision

The competition here is harder than last year and the vacancy table says so plainly. But the structural advantages are real: no interview, no five-year transfer lock, and a state-wise merit list that puts you against candidates from your own state rather than the whole country.

If you are eligible, the form takes an evening and the fee is ₹850, or ₹175 if you are SC, ST or PwBD. The candidates who regret this cycle in December will be the ones who spent the second week of August comparing notifications instead of filling one. Open ibps.in, pick your state, set your bank preferences, and submit. Then go take a timed sectional mock and find out which section is going to be your problem.
