RRB NTPC UG CBT 2 Exam Date 2026 OUT: CBT-II on 17 September, Full Schedule Inside

The wait is over. On 27 August 2026, the Railway Recruitment Boards released the exam date notice for NTPC Undergraduate CBT 2 under CEN 07/2025. The second-stage computer based test will be held on 17 September 2026, which means qualified candidates now have roughly three weeks to prepare.

If you cleared CBT 1 (result declared on 24 August 2026), this page covers everything the notice mentions plus what it does not: exam city slip timeline, e-call letter dates, the CBT 2 pattern, qualifying marks, and a realistic 20-day plan. Read it once, bookmark it, and get back to your mocks.

One caution. The city slip and e-call letter timelines above are based on the standard RRB practice stated in the notice, so treat the 7 and 13 September dates as expected windows, not fixed announcements. Check your zonal RRB website daily from the first week of September.

What the 27 August Notice Actually Says

  • Single exam date: CBT 2 for all Undergraduate posts is scheduled on 17 September 2026. Shifts, if any, will be visible on your city slip.
  • Aadhaar-linked biometric verification is mandatory at the exam centre. Carry your original Aadhaar card or an e-verified printed copy, and make sure your Aadhaar biometrics are unlocked in the UIDAI system before exam day.
  • Download only from official sources: the e-call letter will be issued through rrbapply.gov.in and the zonal RRB websites, using your application number and date of birth.
  • Candidates who appeared in CBT 1 but have not checked their scorecard yet should do it now. We broke down the zone-wise result and cut-off pattern in our RRB NTPC UG CBT 1 Result 2026 analysis.

RRB NTPC UG CBT 2 Exam Pattern 2026

The syllabus is the same as CBT 1. The weightage is not. General Awareness jumps from 40 to 50 questions, and that single change decides most selections.

SectionQuestionsMarks
General Awareness5050
Mathematics3535
General Intelligence and Reasoning3535
Total120120
  • Duration: 90 minutes (120 minutes for eligible PwBD candidates with scribe).
  • Negative marking: 1/3 mark deducted per wrong answer.
  • Scores are normalised across shifts, so a slightly harder shift does not put you at a disadvantage.
  • Minimum qualifying percentage as per CEN norms: UR and EWS 40%, OBC (NCL) and SC 30%, ST 25%. Final selection, though, runs on merit, and merit sits far above these floors.

Posts and Pay Levels After CBT 2

PostPay Level (7th CPC)Initial Basic Pay
Junior Clerk cum TypistLevel 2Rs 19,900
Accounts Clerk cum TypistLevel 2Rs 19,900
Trains ClerkLevel 2Rs 19,900
Commercial cum Ticket ClerkLevel 3Rs 21,700

Add DA, HRA and transport allowance, and in-hand pay for a Level 2 joinee crosses Rs 30,000 in most cities. Cross-check post-wise vacancies and pay details with the official CEN 07/2025 PDF before you lock your post preference.

What Happens After CBT 2?

  • Typing Skill Test (TST): qualifying in nature, only for Junior Clerk cum Typist and Accounts Clerk cum Typist. You need 30 words per minute in English or 25 words per minute in Hindi on a computer, without editing tools.
  • Trains Clerk and Commercial cum Ticket Clerk have no typing test. CBT 2 marks alone build the merit for these posts.
  • Document Verification and Medical Examination come last. Trains Clerk demands A2 medical standard, which includes strict vision norms, so read the medical annexure carefully if your eyesight is weak.

20-Day Strategy: How to Use the Time Till 17 September

General Awareness (50 marks): your selection section

Half the CBT 2 questions come from static GK, general science and current affairs. Railways loves last-12-month current affairs, so revise from September 2025 onward. Spend 2 of your daily study hours here. The candidates who cleared CEN 01/2019 CBT 2 mostly agree on one thing: GA, not Maths, separated selected candidates from the waitlist.

ExamAtlas runs a free daily current affairs quiz built for Railway and SSC aspirants; ten minutes a day on it keeps the revision loop alive without eating your mock time. You can find it on the ExamAtlas current affairs section.

Mathematics (35 marks): accuracy beats attempts

CBT 2 Maths is a step above CBT 1. Expect more questions from algebra, geometry and data interpretation than plain simplification. With 1/3 negative marking and normalisation in play, 28 accurate attempts beat 34 rushed ones. Practise fixed 30-minute sectional drills instead of endless topic revision.

Reasoning (35 marks): the rank builder

Puzzles, seating arrangement, syllogism, coding-decoding and statement-conclusion dominate. This section rewards pattern recognition, and pattern recognition comes only from solved volume. Target 25 to 30 puzzle sets across the next two weeks.

Mock test plan

Ten full mocks between now and 14 September is a sane target, roughly one every alternate day, with a full-error analysis on the gap days. My honest suggestion: this plan assumes your CBT 1 syllabus base is intact. If you have not touched books since the August exam, restart with two revision days before your first mock. ExamAtlas NTPC-pattern mocks include AI analytics that show topic-wise accuracy, which is exactly the data you need to decide what to revise in a 20-day window.

How to Download the City Slip and E-Call Letter

  1. Visit rrbapply.gov.in or your zonal RRB website (for example, rrbcdg.gov.in for Chandigarh, rrbpatna.gov.in for Patna).
  2. Click the CEN 07/2025 exam city intimation or e-call letter link on the homepage.
  3. Log in with your application number and date of birth.
  4. Download the PDF and check name, photo, exam city, shift timing and reporting time.
  5. Print two copies and keep your original Aadhaar with them.

If the portal shows an error in your details, raise a helpdesk ticket immediately instead of waiting for exam week.

Exam-Day Mistakes That Cost Selections

  • Reaching the centre after gate closing time. RRB gates shut well before the shift starts, and no argument reopens them. Plan to reach 90 minutes early.
  • Carrying a photocopy of Aadhaar instead of the original or the e-verified print. Biometric mismatch cases get flagged for extra scrutiny.
  • Attempting GA first and burning 40 minutes on it. Fix your section order in mocks and repeat the same order on 17 September.
  • Leaving the qualifying-marks calculation for the last minute. Know your category floor, then aim well above it, because merit decides posts.

FAQs on RRB NTPC UG CBT 2 2026

What is the RRB NTPC UG CBT 2 exam date 2026?

CBT 2 for Undergraduate posts under CEN 07/2025 will be held on 17 September 2026, as per the RRB notice dated 27 August 2026.

When will the RRB NTPC CBT 2 admit card release?

The e-call letter releases 4 days before the exam, so expect it around 13 September 2026 on rrbapply.gov.in and zonal RRB websites.

When will the exam city slip come?

About 10 days before the exam, which points to around 7 September 2026. The slip shows your exam city and shift, not the full centre address.

Is there negative marking in NTPC CBT 2?

Yes. Every wrong answer costs 1/3 mark. Blind guessing on 15 to 20 questions can wipe out the margin between selection and waitlist.

Is the CBT 2 syllabus different from CBT 1?

No, the syllabus is identical. The difference is weightage (GA rises to 50 questions) and difficulty, which runs a notch higher in Maths and Reasoning.

Which posts need a typing test after CBT 2?

Junior Clerk cum Typist and Accounts Clerk cum Typist require a qualifying typing test at 30 wpm English or 25 wpm Hindi. Trains Clerk and Commercial cum Ticket Clerk do not.

Final Word

A 20-day runway is short but honest preparation windows usually are. Fix your daily split (2 hours GA, 1.5 hours Maths, 1.5 hours Reasoning, 1 mock or analysis block), verify every date on your zonal RRB website, and keep your Aadhaar biometrics unlocked before 17 September. The figures for vacancies in this post come from the recruitment cycle's public documents; verify the exact post-wise break-up in the official CEN 07/2025 PDF once before document verification stage. Your CBT 1 score got you the ticket. CBT 2 decides the seat.
