The Centre cleared the largest bank privatisation India has attempted, selling 60.72% of IDBI Bank for about ₹52,878 crore. Below are 20 facts from 18 and 19 October 2026, each tagged with the exams it matters for. The 15 objective questions built on these facts sit in the day's quiz on ExamAtlas rather than on this page, so you read here and test there. Every figure was checked against the official release where one exists, and anything we could not confirm carries a (verify) tag so you do not memorise a wrong number.

The Global Innovation Index, the Global Gender Gap Index and the Henley Passport Index all carry India's current standing, and all three are standard one-mark questions. Memorise this table as a single block.

Bihar and Jharkhand Special
This is the section most BPSC, BSSC, Bihar Police, JSSC, JPSC and BTET or JTET candidates get wrong, because national dailies bury it. Read it twice.

Important Days
| Day | Theme or Significance |
|---|---|
| 14 October, World Standards Day | "Shared vision for a better world: Spotlight on SDG 7, Affordable and Clean Energy" |
| 15 October, World Students' Day | Birth anniversary of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, India's 11th President |
| 15 October, Mahila Kisan Diwas | "Role of Women Farmers in Developing Agriculture and Developed India" |
| 16 October, World Food Day | "Innovate today. Nourish tomorrow." Marks the founding of FAO in 1945 |
| 17 October, International Day for the Eradication of Poverty | 2026 focus "Safe Homes for All", under the 2026 to 2028 theme "United for Peace and Human Rights" |
| 18 October, World Menopause Day | Women's health awareness; 2026 theme (verify) |
Two numbers from World Food Day are worth carrying into the exam hall. The United Nations says about 645 million people faced hunger last year, and nearly 2.7 billion cannot afford a healthy diet. The Poverty Eradication Day traces back to roughly 100,000 people gathering at the Trocadéro in Paris on 17 October 1987.
One honest caveat before you file this away
Five items on this page carry a verify tag, and that is deliberate. The Asian Para Games tally was still moving as this went up, two sources disagreed on whether BPSC's original prelims date was 25 or 26 October, the AUSINDEX 2026 window came from a single aggregator, the World Bank and IMF chair announcement rests on one digest, and the World Menopause Day theme could not be traced to the International Menopause Society page. Write those five in pencil. Everything else on this page sits on an official release or a primary report.
One practical habit: do not revise current affairs by reading. Revise it by answering. Today's 15 questions on exactly these facts are live in the free daily quiz with topic-wise accuracy tracking, so you can see whether your weak spot is appointments, indices or banking rates rather than guessing.
If your BPSC Prelims plan was built around a late-October date, you now have unscheduled weeks. Use them on Bihar Special GS and the economy section, not on fresh current affairs. The backlog is where marks hide.
