- AFSPA extended by six months. The Ministry of Home Affairs extended the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act in the notified "disturbed areas" of Manipur, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh for a further six months with effect from 1 October 2026. Exam tag: All exams
- Four ports become Mega Ports. On 26 September 2026 the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways notified Deendayal (Kandla), Jawaharlal Nehru (Nhava Sheva), Paradip and Mundra as Mega Ports under sub-section (1) of Section 73 of the Indian Ports Act, 2025. Exam tag: SSC / Railway / All exams

- Maharashtra declares a drought. The state government on 26 September declared 265 of its 358 talukas drought-affected, roughly 74 per cent of the state's land area. Exam tag: All exams
- TRAI opens a digital connectivity rating platform. On 25 September TRAI launched the Digital Connectivity Rating Platform at dcrp.trai.gov.in along with a DCRA mobile app, which rates buildings on in-premises connectivity under the TRAI (Rating of Properties for Digital Connectivity) Regulations, 2024, as amended in 2026. - Jaishankar at the 81st UNGA. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar delivered India's national statement in the general debate of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York on 26 September 2026, calling Pakistan a "serial practitioner of terrorism" and repeating that India's right to defend itself against terrorism will be exercised. - US and China set up an AI hotline. The two countries agreed in Washington DC on 25 September to establish an "artificial intelligence incident communication channel" and a dialogue framework around it. Exam tag: Banking / All exams
- India and Liberia on shipping safety. The two countries launched a joint maritime and shipping-safety initiative in New York on 25 September, on the margins of the UN meetings. Exam tag: SSC / All exams

- Forex reserves fall sharply. RBI data released on 25 September showed India's foreign exchange reserves down $14.881 billion to $765.901 billion for the week ended 18 September 2026. Foreign currency assets fell $14.816 billion to $630.980 billion. Exam tag: Banking / SSC

- India's Asian Games tally hits 30. At the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, India stood at 30 medals (4 gold, 12 silver, 14 bronze) at the close of Day 7 on 26 September. Exam tag: All exams
- Kabaddi double gold, both against Iran. The men's team beat Iran 40-34 and the women's team beat Iran 37-34 on 26 September. Both finals went to the wire, which is unusual for India against Iran in recent editions. Exam tag: All exams
- Sawan Barwal runs a national record. He took silver in the men's marathon in 2:11:37, a new Indian national record. Tajinderpal Singh Toor won silver in the men's shot put the same day. Exam tag: All exams

- Two more firsts on the board. Baranica Elangovan won bronze in the women's pole vault clearing 4.15 metres, and 19-year-old Rishabh Das set a national record in the men's 200m backstroke. Exam tag: All exams

- Ramon Magsaysay Award 2026. The 2026 awardees announced on 1 September are Tommy Koh (Singapore), Runa Khan (Bangladesh) and Bo Kyi (Myanmar). No Indian features in the 2026 list. The award was instituted in 1958 in memory of the Philippine President Ramon Magsaysay and is often called Asia's Nobel Prize. Exam tag: All exams

- Rs 200 crore for a private rocket firm. The Technology Development Board, under the Department of Science and Technology, signed a Rs 200 crore Research, Development and Innovation support agreement with space startup Agnikul Cosmos on 25 September. Exam tag: SSC / Railway / All exams
- EOS-05 is India's eye in geostationary orbit. ISRO placed EOS-05 in geostationary orbit on a GSLV earlier in September 2026, India's first imaging satellite in that orbit, which allows continuous watch over the same region instead of periodic passes. Exam tag: All exams
- A first for women in the IAF's non-medical branches. Air Vice Marshal Shakti Sharma became the first woman non-medical officer in the Indian Armed Forces to hold the rank of Air Vice Marshal. Exam tag: SSC / Railway / All exams

- BPSC TRE 4.0 is live. Advertisement No. 15/2026 was released on 22 September 2026 for 32,388 teacher posts (verify), with the online window running from 25 September to 26 October 2026 and fee payment closing 25 October. A valid CTET or Bihar STET certificate matching your class level is required. Exam tag: BPSC / TET
- BPSC 72nd CCE vacancies revised down. The count moved from 1,230 to 1,186 after 44 Sugarcane Officer posts were withdrawn. The Prelims is scheduled for 25 October 2026, so you have under a month. Exam tag: BPSC
- Bihar's Chief Minister is Samrat Choudhary. He took office on 15 April 2026 as the first BJP Chief Minister of Bihar after Nitish Kumar resigned to move to the Rajya Sabha. Expect a direct one-liner on this in BSSC and Bihar Police papers. Exam tag: BPSC / BSSC / Bihar Police
- Jharkhand Cabinet clears Palamu relocation. On 24 September the Hemant Soren cabinet approved the rehabilitation of 780 families from the Palamu Tiger Reserve area, and sanctioned Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the four people who died in the partial collapse at MGM, Jamshedpur. - 27 September is World Tourism Day. The 2026 theme is "Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism" and the official host is El Salvador, with San Salvador and Surf City hosting events. Your next 30 minutes are better spent on the Bihar-Jharkhand block than on the international items, purely because that is where the marginal marks are for BPSC and JSSC aspirants this month.
