The Bihar School Examination Board released the Secondary Teacher Eligibility Test notification on 14 August 2026, opened the form on 17 August 2026 and set 31 August 2026 as the last date. If you are reading this on 30 August, you have hours, not weeks, to finish the application.
This guide sticks to what is confirmed in the notification cycle and says plainly where a figure is still missing. The exam date has not been announced yet. Anyone printing a Bihar STET 2026 exam date today is guessing.
Bihar STET 2026 at a Glance
That last row is the one candidates keep missing. STET does not hand you a posting. It hands you the certificate that lets you sit for the state teacher recruitment run by the Bihar Public Service Commission. Bihar STET 2026 Important Dates
One honest caveat: the admit card and result gaps above come from how BSEB has run earlier STET cycles, not from the 2026 notification. Treat them as planning assumptions, nothing firmer. Who Can Apply: Eligibility for Paper 1 and Paper 2
Paper 1, for Classes 9 and 10
You need graduation or post-graduation in the subject you are applying for, with at least 50 percent marks, plus a B.Ed. A four-year integrated B.A.Ed or B.Sc.Ed also works. The subject on your degree has to match the subject you pick on the form. A B.A in History does not let you sit the Mathematics paper.
Paper 2, for Classes 11 and 12
Paper 2 raises the bar to post-graduation in the relevant subject with at least 50 percent marks, plus a B.Ed. A three-year integrated B.Ed-M.Ed is accepted in place of the separate degrees. Candidates who are still waiting for a final mark sheet are not eligible. Appearing status does not count here, which is different from how some central teaching exams treat it.
Age Limit
Minimum age is 21 years. The upper limit is 37 years for unreserved men, 40 years for unreserved women and for BC and EBC candidates, and 42 years for SC and ST candidates. Persons with disabilities get a 10-year relaxation. The notification is the only place to confirm the exact cut-off date these ages are counted from, so read that line before you assume you are inside the band.
Bihar STET 2026 Exam Pattern
Both papers follow the same shape. No negative marking means every blank is a wasted mark, so the correct exam-day behaviour is to attempt all 150 questions, guessing where you must, in the last five minutes.
Some pages report the split as 100 subject questions plus a single 50-question block called teaching ability and other skills. That is the same paper described at a coarser level. The 30 plus 20 breakdown is the useful one for planning your revision.
Qualifying Marks by Category
Read that table twice. STET is a bar you clear, not a race you win. There is no merit list that rewards a 140 over a 78. Once you are past the line, the certificate you hold is identical to the one held by the topper, and the competition restarts from zero at the recruitment stage.
How the 150 Questions Break Up
Subject Content: 100 Questions
Two-thirds of the paper is your own subject at the level you want to teach. For Paper 1 that means the Class 9 and 10 curriculum with enough depth above it that a graduate-level question does not surprise you. For Paper 2 it means the Class 11 and 12 curriculum with post-graduation-level depth on the core topics. Bihar Board textbooks for the relevant classes are the correct starting point, followed by your degree notes for the harder half.
Pedagogy: 30 Questions
This block covers child development, learning theories, classroom management, evaluation methods, inclusive education and the teaching methods specific to your subject. Thirty marks is 20 percent of the paper and it is the cheapest scoring block on offer, because the syllabus is finite and repeats across teaching exams. A candidate who has prepared for CTET already has most of it.
General Skills and Awareness: 20 Questions
Expect general knowledge with a Bihar tilt, basic computer awareness, reasoning and language skills. Twenty questions will not decide your result on their own, but they are quick marks and they are why aspirants who ignore this block finish two or three marks short of the line.
Application Fee
Applying for both papers costs less than applying twice, which matters if you hold a post-graduate degree and a B.Ed. In that case you are eligible for both papers and there is little reason to buy only one shot.
Selection Process: What STET Actually Gives You
Clearing STET gets you a qualifying certificate. That certificate is a precondition for applying to Bihar's secondary and senior-secondary teacher posts, which are advertised and filled by BPSC through the Teacher Recruitment Examination cycles. Your STET score does not carry into that merit list. It is a gate, not a currency.
This is why the order of operations matters so much. If you skip STET this cycle and a TRE advertisement lands in the next six months, you cannot apply, no matter how well you would have done in the recruitment paper itself. The certificate has to exist before the recruitment form opens.
What Most Bihar STET Pages Get Wrong
Three errors show up again and again on aggregator pages, and each one costs candidates real money or real time.
The first is a printed exam date. As of 30 August 2026 there is no announced Bihar STET 2026 exam date. Pages carrying one have either copied a previous cycle or invented a plausible month. Plan on the assumption that you have somewhere between six and twelve weeks, and start now rather than waiting for a date to make it feel real.

A Prep Plan That Fits the Real Timeline
Since no exam date exists, build the plan around a conservative ten-week runway and compress it if BSEB announces something sooner.
Weeks 1 to 3: Rebuild the Subject Base
Give five days a week to subject content alone. Work through the Bihar Board textbooks for your classes first, chapter by chapter, writing a one-page summary for each. Textbook coverage is what separates a 65 from an 85 in the 100-mark block. Keep one weekend day for pedagogy so the second block does not become a last-week panic.
Weeks 4 to 7: Pedagogy Plus Full Papers
Bring pedagogy up to about 90 minutes a day. Learning theories, evaluation and inclusive education are the recurring areas. From week 4 onwards, sit one full 150-question paper every week under real timing. Two and a half hours in one sitting is a physical skill as much as an academic one, and the first paper you attempt will feel longer than the fifth.
Week 8 Onwards: Revision and Speed
Stop learning new material. Revise your own summaries, redo every question you got wrong, and push to two full papers a week. Target finishing all 150 questions with ten minutes in hand. Because there is no negative marking, those ten minutes are for filling in every unattempted bubble.
Test Yourself Before BSEB Does
Reading a syllabus and surviving 150 questions in 150 minutes are unrelated abilities. The candidates who clear on the first attempt are almost always the ones who found their weak chapters in a mock rather than in the exam hall. Is the Bihar STET 2026 application window still open?
Yes, but only just. BSEB opened the form on 17 August 2026 and set 31 August 2026 as the last date. If you are reading this on 30 August, finish the form and the payment today rather than tomorrow, because portals slow down on the closing day.
Has BSEB announced the Bihar STET 2026 exam date?
No. As of 30 August 2026 there is no announced exam date, admit card date or result date. Only the notification and application dates are confirmed. Any site showing a specific exam date is publishing a guess.
How many marks do I need to qualify?
Unreserved candidates need 50 percent, which is 75 out of 150. BC candidates need 45.5 percent, EBC candidates 42.5 percent, and SC, ST, PwD and women candidates 40 percent, which is 60 marks. Scoring above the line does not improve your position anywhere later.
Is there negative marking in Bihar STET 2026?
No. All 150 questions carry one mark and nothing is deducted for a wrong answer. Leaving a question blank is strictly worse than guessing on it.
Can I apply for both Paper 1 and Paper 2?
Yes, if you meet both sets of qualifications, which in practice means a post-graduate degree in your subject with 50 percent marks plus a B.Ed. The combined fee is Rs. 1440 for General, EWS, BC and EBC candidates and Rs. 1140 for SC, ST and PwD candidates.
Does clearing STET get me a teaching job in Bihar?
No. STET is an eligibility test. It gives you a certificate that lets you apply for Bihar's secondary and senior-secondary teacher posts, which BPSC fills through its Teacher Recruitment Examination. Your STET marks do not carry into that selection.
Can final-year students apply?
No. Candidates who cannot produce a final mark sheet for the required degree are not eligible for either paper. This is stricter than several central teaching exams, which allow appearing candidates.
Is CTET an acceptable substitute for Bihar STET?
No. CTET covers Classes 1 to 8 and is run by CBSE for central schools, while STET covers Classes 9 to 12 for Bihar's state schools. For secondary and senior-secondary posts in Bihar, STET is the certificate the recruitment body asks for.
Final Word
One point that gets lost in the rush to submit the form: STET certificates in Bihar have historically been tied to lifetime validity, following the national move away from seven-year validity for teacher eligibility certificates. If that holds for this cycle, the two and a half hours you spend in the exam hall buy you a permanent qualification rather than a ticket that expires. Confirm the validity clause in the notification PDF before you rely on it, but plan as though this attempt is worth more than one recruitment cycle.
The immediate job is smaller than the exam. Get the form submitted before 31 August, pick both papers if you qualify for both, and start on the 100-mark subject block tomorrow. The exam date will arrive whether or not you were ready for it.
