Pie Chart Data Interpretation
Pie charts show how a whole is divided among parts, using either percentages or degrees around a circle. They look different from tables and bars but obey one simple rule that, once learned, makes them among the quickest DI sets in SBI Clerk. The whole topic rests on converting between degrees, percentages and actual values smoothly.
Degrees, Percentages and the Whole
A full circle is 360 degrees and represents 100 percent of the total, so every 3.6 degrees equals one percent. If a chart is drawn in degrees, divide by 3.6 to get the percentage; if it is in percentages, you already have the share. The total value of the whole pie is your anchor, because each slice's actual value is simply its percentage of that total.

Finding a Slice's Actual Value
When the total is given, multiply the total by the slice's percentage to get its value, using fraction shortcuts wherever possible. A 25 percent slice of 4,800 is one-quarter, or 1,200, in a single step. When you must compare two slices, their ratio is just the ratio of their percentages or degrees, so you can skip the total entirely for comparison questions.
Two-Pie and Percentage-of-Percentage Questions
Tougher sets show two pie charts, or ask for a slice of a slice. Read carefully whether a percentage refers to the grand total or to one slice. 'Twenty percent of the marketing budget' means twenty percent of that slice's value, not of the whole pie. Identifying the correct base is the single most common place candidates go wrong in pie DI. When two pie charts share a common total, read carefully whether the question wants a comparison within one chart or across both, because the base changes the answer entirely.
Solved Example
Example: A pie chart of a 7,200 budget shows education at 90 degrees. That is 90 / 3.6 = 25 percent, so the value is one-quarter of the total 7,200, which comes to 1,800.

Common Degree-to-Value Conversions
A handful of degree values recur so often in pie DI that memorising them removes a calculation step entirely. Ninety degrees is a quarter, one hundred eighty is a half, sixty degrees is one-sixth, and thirty-six degrees is exactly ten percent. When a slice is drawn at one of these familiar angles you can jump straight to a fraction of the total without dividing by 3.6 at all. This is the pie-chart equivalent of the fraction-percentage table from the simplification chapter, and it pays off just as heavily. Keep these anchors ready and reserve the 3.6-degree division only for the awkward angles that do not match a clean fraction, so that most slices resolve in a single mental step.
