Bihar appears in four of these rows — rice, wheat, jute and sugarcane — and that is the state's agricultural profile in one line. Note that tea needs slopes because standing water damages the roots, which is why it grows on hillsides rather than plains.

The Revolutions

- White Revolution — milk, through Operation Flood; Verghese Kurien.
- Blue for fisheries, Yellow for oilseeds, Golden for horticulture and honey.
The colour-and-product list is asked directly and repays memorising as a block. The Green Revolution succeeded chiefly in Punjab, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh, and reached eastern India, including Bihar, much later — a regional imbalance that is itself examinable.

Almost every mineral row names Jharkhand or Odisha, because both lie on the peninsular plateau, the oldest and most mineral-rich landmass in India. Bihar, lying in the alluvial plain, has very little mineral wealth — and the reason is geological, not administrative.
That belt was part of Bihar until November 2000, when Jharkhand was created.
Industrial Location
Industries locate where raw material, power, labour, market and transport come together. Two classic patterns are asked.
- Iron and steel locates near coal and iron ore — Jamshedpur, Bhilai, Rourkela, Bokaro, Durgapur.
- Cotton textiles began near raw cotton in Mumbai and Ahmedabad but later spread, because cotton is not weight-losing and can be transported.
- Sugar mills must be near the cane, because sucrose content falls rapidly after cutting — which is why Bihar and Uttar Pradesh have mills in the cane districts themselves.
- Information technology locates near cities with skilled labour rather than near any raw material.
The sugar mill example is the clearest illustration of a weight-losing, perishable raw material determining location, and it is the one asked most often because it applies directly to north Bihar.
