Important days questions ask what a given date commemorates, and place questions ask which city a monument stands in. Both are fixed pairings that never change, which makes them among the most dependable marks in the General Awareness section.

Grouping the days by month

Rather than learning dates one at a time, group them by month. January carries Youth Day and Republic Day, September carries Teachers' Day, Hindi Diwas and Engineers' Day within ten days of each other, and November carries Children's Day and Constitution Day. Grouping this way also protects against the most common error, which is placing the right day in the wrong month.

Monuments and who built them

Place questions sometimes extend to the builder. Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal, the Red Fort and the Jama Masjid, Qutbuddin Aibak began the Qutub Minar and Iltutmish completed it, and Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh built the Hawa Mahal at Jaipur. Because the same monuments appear in the medieval history chapter, the builder-and-monument pairing earns marks in both places and is worth revising alongside the city list.
