Three things dominate today's paper if you are writing a government exam: the Indian Army marks its 80th Infantry Day, the Men's Asian Champions Trophy opens on Punjab soil after 17 years, and Anup Bagchi takes charge as HDFC Bank's MD and CEO. Add a Presidential assent for the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority and you have a day worth a full revision page.

Everything below covers the last 24 hours, cross-checked against PIB, RBI and ISRO releases wherever the source allowed it. Each fact carries the exam it matters most for, so you can skip what your paper will not ask.

Important Days

  1. Infantry Day (Shaurya Diwas), 27 October, is in its 80th observance. On this day in 1947, troops of the 1st Battalion, Sikh Regiment landed at Srinagar airfield under Lieutenant Colonel Dewan Ranjit Rai, who was awarded the Maha Vir Chakra posthumously. It was independent India's first major military operation, and the infantry is still called the Queen of the Battle. Exam tag: SSC / Railway / All exams

One more name worth a line: painter and former Rajya Sabha MP Jogen Chowdhury died in Kolkata aged 87. He won the Kalidas Samman in 2001 and Banga Bibhushan in 2012. Obituaries of Padma and Kalidas awardees show up in SSC and state GK papers more often than candidates expect.

Final Word

One honest caveat before you file these notes. The BPSC 72nd prelims cancellation is reported by news outlets but has not been paired with an official fresh date, so check bpsc.bihar.gov.in yourself before you plan your October and November study blocks. The two index toppers in the table above are marked for verification for the same reason.

If you revise only four things from today, make them the 80th Infantry Day, the 5.50% repo rate, the 114-medal Asian Para Games haul and NVS-03 on GSLV Mk II. Those four turn up across SSC, Railway, Banking and state papers alike.
