Three things dominated the last 24 hours if you are writing a government exam this season. India picked up six athletics medals in a single day at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, the bank strike that was supposed to shut counters on 28 September was called off at the last minute, and factory output data for August came in at 8.0 per cent, the strongest print in months.

- Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah inaugurated the conference on PRAHAAR: CT Policy and Strategy in New Delhi on 28 September. The conference is a Ministry of Home Affairs initiative on counter-terrorism policy. Exam tag: All exams

- India's Index of Industrial Production grew 8.0 per cent in August 2026, against 6.7 per cent in July. Manufacturing rose 9.0 per cent and electricity 12.3 per cent, while mining contracted 5.6 per cent. The index stood at 123.3 on base 2022-23 = 100. Exam tag: Banking / SSC / BPSC
- The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) deferred its three-day strike of 28 to 30 September after the Indian Banks' Association agreed to talks. Branches stayed open. - CBDT extended the due date for filing the Return of Income for AY 2026-27 for taxpayers subject to audit, from 31 October 2026 to 21 November 2026. Exam tag: Banking / SSC
One honest caveat on the IIP number. An 8 per cent print looks dramatic, but part of it is a low base in August 2025 and a heavy electricity contribution. Do not carry it into an interview as proof of a manufacturing boom. Quote the number, quote the base year, and stop there.

- India collected six athletics medals on Day 9 of the Asian Games 2026 at Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Murali Sreeshankar took silver in the men's long jump, his second successive Asian Games silver in the event. Gulveer Singh won silver in the men's 1500m, Parul Chaudhary bronze in the women's 5000m, and Vithya Ramraj bronze in the women's 400m hurdles. - At the 46th Chess Olympiad in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, India finished with silver in the Open section on 18 points behind hosts Uzbekistan on 20, and bronze in the women's section behind China. - The 16th Sansad Ratna Awards 2026 were presented at Bhim Hall, Dr Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi. Eight Lok Sabha MPs, two Rajya Sabha MPs and four Parliamentary Standing Committees were honoured. Praveen Patil and P. P. Chaudhary were the overall toppers. - An Indian Armed Forces contingent departed on 28 September for KAZIND-2026, the ninth edition of the India-Kazakhstan joint military exercise. It runs at Oskemen, Kazakhstan from 28 September to 11 October 2026. - Minister of State for Science and Technology Dr Jitendra Singh said India-France space cooperation has entered a new phase centred on human spaceflight, start-ups and the New Space ecosystem. - Indian Railways approved ₹223 crore for Kavach 4.0 across 614.75 route kilometres of the Varanasi division, and ₹122 crore for the 6 km Barbil-Bolanikhadan doubling in South Eastern Railway. Kavach is the indigenous automatic train protection system. Exam tag: Railway / SSC

- Jharkhand: Chief Minister Hemant Soren met RMZ Infrastructure President Deepak Chhabria on 28 September on a proposed IT Park in Ranchi. About 100 acres is under consideration. Phase 1 is projected to create roughly 20,000 jobs, scaling to 75,000 by 2029. Exam tag: JSSC / JPSC / JTET
- Bihar: The state Cabinet cleared 24 proposals on 24 September. Two new universities were approved, Mata Sita Women's University in Patna and Rashtrakavi Ramdhari Singh Dinkar University in Begusarai, with ₹15 crore each for salaries and establishment costs. The JSSC JTGLCCE 2026 under Advertisement 01/2026 covers 611 posts with a three-stage selection of Prelims, Mains and document verification, and the exam schedule is still awaited. On the Bihar side, BPSSC Advertisement 09/2026 is for 150 Sub-Inspector posts. Check the commission websites before you trust any date circulating on social media.

The Global Innovation Index 2026 from WIPO is scheduled for release on 29 September 2026 and covers close to 140 economies. India stood 38th in the 2025 edition. Treat the 2026 rank as pending until the report is actually out.
How to use today's list
Do not try to memorise all 20 lines in one sitting. Pick the six that match your paper. A BPSC candidate needs the Bihar Cabinet decisions and the Council chairmanship more than the G20 trade meeting. An IBPS PO aspirant needs the IIP print, the UFBU strike and the CBDT date, and can skim the rest.
One warning about the Bihar Legislative Council item. It is reported in state media but we could not confirm it against an official Council or Raj Bhavan release at the time of writing, so it carries a verify tag. If a question on it appears in a mock test this week, check the Council website before you argue with the answer key.
