District Administration
The district is where state policy meets the citizen. In Jharkhand the Deputy Commissioner heads the district, an SDO heads each subdivision, a BDO runs the block and a Circle Officer handles land records and revenue.

The district head
- The Deputy Commissioner (DC) heads the district administration
- The same officer also acts as District Magistrate and as Collector
- As DC, the officer coordinates development schemes and departments
- As District Magistrate, the officer handles law and order and magistracy
- As Collector, the officer is responsible for land revenue and records
- The DC also chairs the District Mineral Foundation and disaster management committees

The police and revenue lines
- The state police is headed by the Director General of Police
- Districts are headed by an SP, or an SSP in larger districts
- Districts are grouped into police ranges and zones under DIGs and IGs
- The revenue line runs DC, SDO, CO and the halka level staff
- Judicial magistracy is separate and runs under the district and sessions judge
