Seating and puzzles together carry roughly 15 to 20 marks of SBI Clerk Reasoning, so how you attack them decides your section score more than any single trick. The winning approach is not to solve harder but to solve in the right order: anchor the fixed clue first, settle the facing direction, and know exactly which set to skip. Anchor the Fixed Clue First
Every seating set has one clue that pins a person to a definite seat, an extreme end, a fixed position from an end, or the centre of a row. Start there, because an anchor gives every later clue something to attach to and stops your diagram from floating. Read all clues once, rank them from most definite to most vague, and place the strongest first. Candidates who start with a soft 'A is somewhere left of B' clue waste time redrawing; those who anchor first build the diagram in one clean pass.
Settle the Facing Direction Immediately
Before interpreting a single left-or-right clue, write the facing direction on your diagram, because it controls whether left and right read normally or reversed. North-facing rows and centre-facing circles are the two setups where directions behave differently, and mixing them up flips your whole answer. Making 'facing first' an automatic habit removes the single most common seating mistake and costs only a couple of seconds per set.

When to Skip a Set
Skipping is a scoring skill, not a surrender. Give a set about ninety seconds of setup, and if the diagram is still branching into three or more live cases with no anchor holding, mark it and move on to a definite set elsewhere. In a sectional-timed section, one stubborn puzzle can eat the minutes that four easy questions needed, so protect the easy marks first and return only if time remains.

A Repeatable Solving Routine
Fold everything into a fixed five-step routine you rehearse in every mock until it is automatic. First, read all clues once and note the facing direction. Second, rank clues from most definite to least and place the anchor. Third, add immediate-neighbour and fixed-gap clues to grow the diagram outward. Fourth, branch into labelled cases only when a clue genuinely allows two placements, and delete contradictions. Fifth, answer all four or five questions from the finished diagram in one sweep, since each question is now a lookup rather than a fresh solve. This order, anchor then facing then neighbours then cases, is what lets strong candidates clear a full seating set in three to four minutes while others are still redrawing. Speed here comes from sequence and discipline, not from any secret formula, and it is built only by timed practice on full sets.
