Sports questions in SSC CGL are of three kinds: how many players a team has, which trophy belongs to which sport, and which term belongs to which game. All three are fixed facts, unlike the year's winners, so they are the reliable part of this topic to memorise.

Where the marks actually sit

Sports questions split into a fixed half and a changing half. The fixed half, covering players per team, trophies, terms and the founding of the modern Olympics, can be memorised once and will never need updating. The changing half, covering the current champions and record holders, belongs with current affairs and should be revised only in the last few weeks. Spending equal time on both is a common mistake, since the fixed half is more likely to be asked and never goes stale.

Sports and their countries

Some questions ask which sport is the national game of a country or where a sport originated. Sumo is associated with Japan, ice hockey with Canada, and baseball with the United States. India has no officially declared national game, a point that appears as a question in itself. Origin questions are less frequent than trophy questions but follow the same fixed-fact pattern.
